Defining Your Field of Study

Step 1.  Write a definitive description of the field of Engineering / Technology that fully describes its elements, the typical types of work that may be included, what individuals may be responsible for on a daily basis.  What do organizations such as Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE), Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME), American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE), and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) offer as far as definitions?  Use the (2) organizations that BEST fit your field of study as sources, but review others for additional viewpoints and descriptions.  If the above list does not contain your field, then research and utilize the appropriate organizations/entities that represent your field of study.

 

Step 2.  Discuss how your degree and field of study fits into these definitions and duties. To help you accomplish this assignment, try to explain to people (who don’t know what E&T is, not classmates).  What is Engineering & Technology as a field of study?

 

 

Step 3.   How do the courses, and the topics you have studied within them, relate to the industry definitions and how they have prepared you to support/perform these items.  Show some basic relationships.
