Complete the Required and Recommended Learning Activities for this week.

Research and write a research-based paper on a suggested compensation and benefits plan (relative to the scenario you elect to use from the three Atwood Consulting Scenarios). Focus your research and develop content in accordance with the subtopics noted below.

Grading criteria for all papers in this course is fully described in the Instructor Policy Document.

This paper should be approximately 1250-1450 words minimum (i.e. 4-5 pages) and should contain a minimum of three different peer-reviewed sources.

NOTE: If needed, see the post in our Class Messages area on finding the “Atwood Scenarios.”

  • Describe a compensation plan relative to the Atwood Consulting scenario you selected in Week One.                    NOTE: You’ll find the scenarios under our Week One Tab. Scroll down to find the link for Welcome Letter from Atwood Consulting. Click on that link. From here, click on the Atwood Consulting link found on the right side of the page. You’ll find the weekly Atwood scenarios there. You are only required to use this scenario for this particular paper. However, you are welcome to continue using this scenario for future papers in this course, as it will help you with a framework for each week’s topic.
  • Describe why the plan you recommend is a good plan for both the individual as well as for the company. (i.e., Why might this plan be considered a good one to employees? Why is it good for the company?)
  • Identify any obstacles or resistance from others in the organization relative to this pay plan.
  • Describe three components of a Total Rewards Package that might motivate this person to reach peak performance.
  • Discuss three best practices for reducing turnover, and how do these help reduce unwanted turnover?

Here is the scenario:

Traci: Hello, this is Traci Goldeman with Atwood and Allen Consulting. I wanted to take a minute to talk with you about your business. Just so you’re aware, I will be recording our communications over the next several weeks, including this video chat, and placing them in your file for my employees to use as a reference. Having said that, let’s get started. Why don’t you tell me a bit about you and your business?

Bradley: Sure, Traci. My name is Bradley Stonefield and I am opening a limousine service. I’m going to name it Landslide Limousines, and focus on providing first-class transportation. I’m really excited to be working with you as I get everything set up.

Traci: And what location are you looking at?

Bradley: I plan on opening in Austin, Texas.

Traci: What is your current location?

Bradley: That’s where I’m currently at.

Traci: OK, and how many employees do you have?

Bradley: Well, my goal is to have 25 employees within the first year, so that’s the number I’d like to use for any planning.

Traci: All right, we’ll keep that in mind. Now, the first thing I’d like to do is to address employment laws, so we can make sure you’re on the right track. I’ll have my employees work on identifying applicable laws as well as the consequences of noncompliance with those laws, then we’ll give you recommendations on how to be compliant. Once we have that, we’ll work on some other HR issues for you. Will that work?

Bradley: That sounds great, Traci! Thanks so much for your help, and I’ll look for that information from you.

Traci: OK, thank you for your time, and I will be in touch with you soon. Don’t hesitate to contact me if anything changes, or if you have any questions. Bye.

Designing FERPA Technical Safeguards

Designing FERPA Technical Safeguards

Due Week 2 and worth 100 points

Imagine you are an Information Security consultant for a small college registrar’s office consisting of the registrar and two (2) assistant registrars, two (2) student workers, and one (1) receptionist. The office is physically located near several other office spaces. The assistant registrars utilize mobile devices over a wireless network to access student records, with the electronic student records being stored on a server located in the building. Additionally, each registrar’s office has a desktop computer that utilizes a wired network to access the server and electronic student records. The receptionist station has a desktop computer that is used to schedule appointments, but cannot access student records. In 1974, Congress enacted the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) to help protect the integrity of student records. The college has hired you to ensure technical safeguards are appropriately designed to preserve the integrity of the student records maintained in the registrar’s office.

Write a three to five (3-5) page paper in which you:

  1. Analyze proper physical access control safeguards and provide sound recommendations to be employed in the registrar’s office.
  2. Recommend the proper audit controls to be employed in the registrar’s office.
  3. Suggest three (3) logical access control methods to restrict unauthorized entities from accessing sensitive information, and explain why you suggested each method.
  4. Analyze the means in which data moves within the organization and identify techniques that may be used to provide transmission security safeguards.
  5. Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Describe the role of information systems security (ISS) compliance and its relationship to U.S. compliance laws.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in security strategy and policy formation.
  • Write clearly and concisely about topics related to information technology audit and control using proper writing mechanics and technical style conventions.

What might be the unintended consequences and perceived benefits of the resolution proposed by the Christian worldview?

Ethical Dilemma

  1. Pornography

TJ secretly enjoys pornography. He gets a great deal of gratification out of viewing Internet pornography and masturbating, though he always acts behind closed doors and believes that his actions have no effect on others. He justifies his behavior by saying, ‘Who am I harming?’

Then he discovers a statistic on the Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking website (http://www.unglobalcompact.org/docs/issues_doc/labour/Forced_labour/HUMAN_TRAFFICKING_-_THE_FACTS_-_final.pdf)  stating that 43% of human trafficking victims are used for forced commercial sexual exploitation, of whom 98% are women and girls, and that the pornography business is a multibillion dollar industry (Global Initiative, n.d.).

His freedom to view pornography is now at odds with harm to himself (addiction) and others (abuse through forced trafficking and media exploitation). (More information can be found at http://www.lifeissues.net/writers/may/may_17pornographycost.html, which is a report by William May called “The Social Costs of Pornography” provided by the Witherspoon Institute out of Princeton [May, 2010].)

How should PJ respond? Should he maintain his lifestyle because of his freedom of choice or should he change his behavior because of the harm done? What is his responsibility for the harm that the pornography industry can cause, even if he himself is not directly harming someone else?

Write a 1,000-1,500 word essay in which you analyze ethical thinking and use values-based decision making to address a case study from the perspective of the Christian worldview as compared to your own worldview assumptions. Choose one case study from the five options listed on the “Ethical Dilemmas” document.

After an appropriate introductory paragraph with a thesis statement in which you name the scenario you are choosing, address each of the following six sections with at least one paragraph each. Use the underlined titles for each of your headings.

  1. Ethical Dilemma: Briefly describe the ethical dilemma in your own words, including (a) what in the scenario makes it difficult to make an ethical decision and (b) at least two options for resolving the scenario, providing a brief overview of what sort of ethical decisions each option might make.
  2. Core Beliefs: What beliefs about God and humanity from the Christian worldview are relevant to the scenario? How might these core worldview commitments of Christians influence one’s decision making with regard to this scenario?
  3. Resolution: Describe the Christian worldview’s proposal for resolving the ethical dilemma. How should the person in the scenario act according to the Christian worldview? What is the best course of action for a Christian? (Note: The resolution should be consistent with Christian worldview commitments.)
  4. Evaluation: What might be the unintended consequences and perceived benefits of the resolution proposed by the Christian worldview?
  5. Comparison: How does the Christian worldview’s resolution compare to another option?
  6. Conclusion: Synthesize the main points, pulling the ideas of the paper together.
