How could such boundary violations negatively affect a client?

Assignment 2: Discussion—The Healthy Provider

According to a major study, the most common complaint made by clients against licensed counselors, psychologists, and social workers involved violations of boundaries (Phelan, 2007). In most cases, when a licensed therapist was disciplined by an ethics board, it was due to the therapist engaging in an inappropriately intimate relationship with a client. Other types of boundary violations included entering into other forms of dual relationships with clients, such as business relationships or friendships.

Use the Internet, your textbook, and the Argosy University online library resources to research ethical boundaries with clients. While reading the 2014 ACA Code of Ethics from your module readings, pay particular attention to “Section A: The Counseling Relationship,” in which you will find code “A.5. Prohibited Noncounseling Roles and Relationships.” Based on your research, respond to the following:

  • Discuss at least three ways a human services provider might demonstrate poor boundaries with a client. Provide examples to illustrate each form of boundary violation.
  • How could such boundary violations negatively affect a client? Cite information from your text and/or from the ACA Code of Ethics.

Write your initial response in a minimum of 350 words. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

By Saturday, January 9, 2016, post your response to the appropriate Discussion Area. Through Wednesday, January 13, 2016, review and comment on at least two peers’ responses. Provide a statement of clarification, a point of view with rationale, challenge a point of discussion, or draw a relationship between one or more points of the discussion of at least two other students.

Identify the relationship of the outsourced service and the impact to the organizational structure.

HCS 370 ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR(Benefits of Outsourcing Services)

 the scenarios is scenarios 1

Many companies benefit from outsourcing services because it allows the company to lower costs, focus on its organizational culture, and increase the speed and quality of services. You have been asked to analyze how the outsourced service interacts with your company’s clients.

Read and select 1 of the following scenarios to complete the assignment:

  1. In 2009, the U.S. Stimulus Act changed the way health care providers use electronic health records (EHR). A local clinic was informed that to avoid penalties it would need to adopt a qualified EHR system. The clinic managers discussed two options: 1) adopting an in house EHR system and 2) outsourcing the EHRs. After weighing the pros and cons of each option, the company decided to outsource the EHRs.
  2. Recent research shows that many companies are starting to explore the idea of outsourcing for their human resources department. A large pharmaceutical company has begun discussing outsourcing their human resources department.
  3. Atwood Laboratories is a small company that completes lab work and bills its patients using two staff members. A larger laboratory in the neighborhood closed its doors recently, which has increased Atwood’s patients and billing. The company is considering outsourcing its patient billing to accommodate the influx of patients.

Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper that includes the following:

  • Identify the relationship of the outsourced service and the impact to the organizational structure.
  • Describe the benefit and alignment of outsourcing services on organizational culture.
  • Describe how a company can align the client experience with the outsourced service along with your organizational culture.

Format your paper according to APA guidelines.

What would you surmise about the responsibilities of managers and leaders and about the distinctions between these two categories in health care settings?

he Distinction between Leadership and Management

Think of the managers you have reported to thus far in your career. Now consider the people you have worked with or know of that you would consider leaders. Based on these experiences, what would you surmise about the responsibilities of managers and leaders and about the distinctions between these two categories in health care settings?

This week’s Learning Resources classify management and leadership (which are often confused in everyday discussion) and explain their significance for health care organizations. As you advance professionally, it is critical to understand the distinctions between management and leadership and how you can apply this knowledge for increasing effectiveness in your workplace.

To prepare:

  • Review the information in the Learning Resources.
  • Conduct additional research on your own and select at least two current, credible sources that contribute to your understanding of management and leadership.
  • Reflect on how the roles of management and leadership differ in supporting the organization to set and achieve goals.
  • Drawing upon specific examples from a current or previous practice setting, bring to mind someone who seemed to be a leader but not a manager and someone who seemed to be a manager but not a leader (generally speaking, or within a specific circumstance). Be prepared to support your assessment with specific behavioral descriptions found in the literature.

On the Week 8 Discussion Board, 1 page, APA format

  1. an analysis of how management and leadership roles differ in terms of supporting an organization to set and achieve goals.
  2. In addition, post  descriptions of an individual who demonstrates leadership behaviors but not management behaviors and an individual who demonstrates management behaviors but not leadership behaviors.
  3. Provide your rationale, identifying specific characteristics of effective managers and leaders. (Note:Do not identify these individuals by name, position, or location.)

How might you improve your listening skills going forward?

Assignment 1: Blinded by the Light—S.O.L.E.R

Assignment 1: Blinded by the Light—S.O.L.E.R

In this assignment, you will learn about and practice the skill of effective listening. To do this, you will listen not only with your ears but also with your eyes and body. You will begin to understand the importance of posture and eye contact to the active listening process by practicing this skill and critically analyzing your experience of this practice.

A common acronym among the helping professions for practicing effective listening is S.O.L.E.R. This stands for the following:

  • Squarely face the person.
  • Open your posture.
  • Lean toward the sender.
  • Eye contact maintained.
  • Relax while attending.

Tasks:

It would be a good idea to review the basic attending skills video before you begin this assignment. After you have completed the attending skills video exercises, practice the SOLER skills described above with a partner at home or work. You are to engage in a fifteen-minute conversation where you are primarily the listener. Practice each of the S.O.L.E.R skills. Ask your partner for feedback on how this conversation was different from other conversations you have had with him or her. Next, switch roles. Introduce the concept of S.O.L.E.R to your partner and have him or her try it with you. See what you can observe and compare it to your experience as the listener. The attending skills video has some examples of this type of conversation and follow-up feedback session that should help you better understand what you are being asked to do. Post this feedback and your experience of the conversation to the Discussion Area.

In your response, answer the following questions:

  • Which one of the S.O.L.E.R skills was the most difficult and why?
  • What were the greatest obstacles to listening you found in the exercise? Why?
  • How were your observations and experiences reflective of or contrary to research on active listening that you have found in professional literature?
  • How might you improve your listening skills going forward?

Submission Details:

  • By Saturday, January 16, 2016, post your responses in at least 3–4 paragraphs to this Discussion Area. Your response should rely upon at least two sources from professional literature. This may include the Argosy University online library resources, relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .org, or .gov). Write in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources (i.e., APA format); and use accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Analyze how health information technology supports evidence-based practice.

nurs 6051 Week 8 discussion question

Using Health Information Technology as a Source of Evidence-Based Practice

Before the digital revolution, health information technology supplied very limited support for evidence-based practice. If nurses wanted to be informed about cutting-edge research, their best bet was to either subscribe to leading journals or make periodic trips to the library. With the establishment of research databases, however, nurses became empowered to learn about and facilitate interdisciplinary and transnational research. Databases are just one example of how health information technology supports evidence-based practice.

To prepare:

  • Read the following scenario from the text (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2011, p. 482):
  • Twelve-hour shifts are problematic for patient and nurse safety, and yet hospitals continue to keep the 12-hour shift schedule. In 2004, the Institute of Medicine (Board on Health Care Services & Institute of Medicine, 2004) published a report that referred to studies as early as 1988 that discussed the negative effects of rotating shifts on intervention accuracy. Workers with 12-hour shifts realized more fatigue than workers on 8-hour shifts. In another study done in Turkey by Ilhan, Durukan, Aras, Turkcuoglu, and Aygun (2006), factors relating to increased risk for injury were age of 24 or less, less than 4 years of nursing experience, working in the surgical intensive care units, and working for more than 8 hours.
  1. Consider how the resources identified in the scenario above could influence an organization’s practice.

Post 1 page response APA

  1. Select an issue in your practice that is of concern (rotaing shifts) to you and provide a description of your practice concern.
  2.  Using health information technology, locate at least three evidence-based practice resources that address your concern and that could possibly inform further action. Outline how you used health information technology to locate evidence-based practices that address this concern. Cite and include insights from the resources.
  1. Analyze how health information technology supports evidence-based practice.
