Do you think this model could be used in other organizations?

For Prof. Dan.

Deliverable Length:  8-10 slides with 200-250 words of speaker notes

Case Study

After much labor and management conflict, this integrated managed care consortium and over 25 unions created this labor management partnership (LMP). Today, it is considered a model of union and labor partnerships for the future of labor and management relations. This collaboration involved over 90,000 workers and changed the fabric of union and management relationships. Instead of being a competitive bargaining process, it became a collaborative partnership of mutual respect to a goal of mutual gains. The collaboration resulted in improved services (increased patient satisfaction), improved financial results, and happier employees. Many are encouraging this model to become a standard for future union and management negotiations. Review the resources provided in your phase resources. Develop a PowerPoint presentation that addresses the following:

Part 1

  • Name 1 union that was part of this partnership?
  • Discuss what type of union (craft, industrial, general, white collar) and whether it is a federation or local union.
  • Identify 5 key elements that made this partnership so successful.
  • Do you think this model could be used in other organizations? Justify your answer.

Part 2

The value of the partnership was the fact that both parties bargained in good faith and were able to come to agreement on all mandatory collective bargaining items. It is important to understand details of this process. Answer the following:

  • What is good faith bargaining?
  • Define an impasse. If labor and management comes to an impasse, does that mean that they did not engage in good faith bargaining? Justify your answer.
  • Name 3 items that are mandatory in the collective bargaining (e.g., items that must be in the union contract). Why do you think these are mandatory items for a collective bargaining contract?
  • Name 1 illegal item that is forbidden by law to be included in the collective bargaining process. Why do you think the law forbids bargaining around this item?

Please submit your assignment.

How has technology changed the way in which the manager defines how tasks are performed and completed within the organizational structure?

organizational theory

organizational theory

Two paragraphs per theme

THEME ONE: In the planning stage the manager must understand completely the purpose, vision, values, and mission of the organization. Why does the organization exist? How does it want to do business? Where is headed for the future and how does it mean to get there? These questions are answered by the leader of the organization however the manager must understand the answers to the question because from there they take information and make it real through the setting of goals and implementation.

THEME TWO: How does the manager formulate goals and implementation? It starts in the planning stage where they are formulated and evaluated (strategized) against the vision, mission, purpose etc. Goals are revisited several times in the planning session and measured by the manager during the lifetime of their existence.  Chapter 5 demonstrates that setting goals and objectives is part of the Strategy Formulation stage. There is also a need for critical thinking in the formulation and evaluation of goals.

THEME THREE: The student should explore the different types of organizational structures as they exist today (20th century types in transition) and those of the 21st century. This should include traditional concepts like bureaucratic, adhocracy, clan, and democratic as well as more contemporary types like flat, horizontal, and “boundaryless” structures.

  1. The leader within an organization creates the structure of the organization by the leader.  It is the job of the manager to implement the “purpose” of the organization and its needs within this structure.
  2. A manager makes sure that processes, procedures, etc. are properly assigned in such a way that the business is moving toward the vision while making sure the organization is producing its widget or delivering its service.
  3. There is a relationship between organizational structure and culture

THEME FOUR: How has technology changed the way in which the manager defines how tasks are performed and completed within the organizational structure? What happens to structure when the walls are missing? How do the tasks get complete and by whom?

How do students or clients describe the experience of the counseling they have received and its impact on them?

Research and Counseling Services

It is important that the approaches used by counselors and the counseling programs implemented in schools and agencies are effective for the clients and students who will be receiving these services. Counselors in the field often conduct research to test the effectiveness of their services. Consider one of the following questions that a counselor working in a school or agency may want to explore:

  • Does completion of eight group counseling sessions help to decrease levels of social anxiety (or other symptoms or issues)?
  • How do students or clients describe the experience of the counseling they have received and its impact on them?
  • What is the effect of short-term counseling (6–8 sessions) for couples who report significant levels of relationship discord?
  • What is the effect of counseling for adolescents who report serious issues with substance abuse?
  • What impact does attending a 2-hour information workshop have on clients or students who are engaged in career counseling?

In your post, specify which of the questions above you are considering, and respond to the following:

  • What legal or ethical issues would you consider as you select participants, if you were granted permission to answer one of these questions through a structured study at your school or agency?
  • How would you address issues of informed consent and confidentiality for participants in the study? Cite specific areas of the ACA 2014 Code of Ethics and other ethical guidelines to support your decisions.

What additional activities you would add to this project to make it more complete, from a project management viewpoint?
