Comparing/Contrasting Educational Evaluation As this week’s readings indicate, it is important to establish a common understanding of the distinctions between assessment, evaluation, performance measurement, and other terms used in educational evaluation. For this discussion, offer clear distinctions between these terms for an educational or workplace learning setting of your choosing. Your initial post (due Day 3) should be 150 to 250 words in length. Remember to support your assertions with experience and/or other sources. To guide your thinking, consider the following: Which assessment terms are similar? How might they differ? Give an example of a past evaluation you either received at work or gave to an employee. What type of assessment was used (formative/summative)? What factors influenced the choice of assessment used? If you have not received an evaluation at work, think back to all the assessments you have had as a student. What types of assessments were used? What were some aspects that helped you as a student? How do you feel students should be evaluated in general?

Answer the following questions about the actor you’ve chosen for Paper #1.

Directions: Answer questions 1 through 7 with your actor in mind. In other words, if you are focusing on Marilyn Monroe’s persona for Paper #1, you would answer the 7 questions about her.

Think of 2 or 3 films featuring the actor/actress you chose as the subject for your first paper.  Ask yourself these questions about his/her character in each film.

1. What qualities, strengths and flaws does the main character possess that are unique, odd, frustrating, infuriating, hilarious, heartrending, touching, inspiring? Name a few key qualities that make the character… accessible/sympathetic/compelling/endearing/revolting/memorable.
2. Are these qualities visible in / linked to the character’s costume? His/her hair? His/her makeup? The way the actor playing him/her acts/walks? Is blocked/staged? Is lit? How do the props and setting enhance/highlight the main character’s key qualities? Does the cinematography highlight these qualities? How so? 2B. Give examples. Think of a scene in the beginning, middle and end of the film where the mise-en-scene highlights these qualities.
3. Do these character qualities drive the plot and/or story in some ways?  If so, think of a scene in the beginning of the film where these qualities come into play – cause something to happen. Next, think of a scene in the middle of the film where these qualities come into play. Lastly, think of a scene in the end of the film.
4. Do these qualities figure into the character’s personal history, his/her present occupation (or lack thereof)? His/her love life? His/her future plans?
5. How does the genre(s) of the film lend itself/themselves to highlighting these qualities/strengths/weaknesses?
6. Can you link these qualities, strengths and flaws to the themes of the film?
7. Can you link these qualities, strengths and flaws to the culture/time period in which the film was made? How so? Do you believe that these qualities, strengths and flaws are meant to teach us something about what it means to be human? American?

Jim and Laura Buyer visit the local car dealership because they are interested in buying a new car. The car they currently have is aging and is starting to have mechanical problems. Jim and Laura would share the new car, and use it to go back and forth to work and school. Before going to the dealership, Jim and Laura decide that they can only afford $400.00 a month in car payments.

Once at the car dealership, Jim and Laura meet Stan Salesman. Stan shows them several vehicles and Jim and Laura test-drive several of the cars. Jim and Laura particularly like the blue 4-door sedan.  Therefore, they agree to give Stan Salesman a $100.00 deposit to hold the car for a day. Stan Salesman does not give them the receipt but guarantees that the $100.00 is refundable. No documents were signed.

The next day, Stan Salesman calls Jim and Laura to ask them when they would like to take delivery of the car. Jim and Laura, on the way home from the dealership, decided that they were not going to buy the car because they did not want to spend that money each month. Therefore, Jim and Laura tell Stan salesman that they have decided not to buy the car and request their $100.00 deposit back.

Stan insists that the $100.00 was a deposit on the car and was meant to be part of the contract to buy the car. Stan is very persistent and insistent that Jim and Laura have contracted to buy the car; therefore, the $100.00 will be applied to the purchase price of the car. Jim and Laura are shocked and angry as not only do they not want to spend the money, but now feel as though they are being duped by Stan Salesman.

Jim and Laura have an appointment to see a lawyer in a few days, but know you are a student taking a business law class and come to you for advice. They are very frazzled, and understandably upset that they may have just purchased a car. Since you have been taking business law, you have read and understand the elements of a contract and the defenses to a contract. Therefore, although you are not a lawyer, you provide some basic advice from what you’ve learned in your business law class.

In three to five (3) pages, advise Jim and Laura based on the above facts as presented, the material provided in the text, and material covered in the lecture. In your paper, be sure to address the following:

1. Define the elements of a legal contract using examples from the scenario where applicable.
2. Decide whether or not there was a contract for the purchase of the automobile.
3. Identify the facts from the scenario which support your decision on whether or not a contract exists for the purchase of the automobile.
4. Use at least two (2) quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as quality academic resources.
5. Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
   • Typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
   • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.

While reading Chapter 1, become familiar with the three major sociological perspectives because you will be asked to use them repeatedly throughout the course. Try to think of these theoretical perspectives, not as true or false, but as useful or less useful for a particular circumstance. You can think of them like lenses. You would not use a microscope to look at stars, nor would you use a telescope to look at tissue samples. Each of these perspectives offers unique insights.

Use all three perspectives (functionalism, conflict, and interactionism) to analyze one of the following issues: Fraternities and sororities, social networking sites, or employer/employee relations.

Write a 700- to 1,050-word essay in which you complete the following:

• Give a brief introduction that identifies the issue you have chosen and why.
• Describe in three separate paragraphs how each perspective would view or explain the issue.
• Include in your analysis elements of culture and how humans learn, develop, and become integrated into society.
• Provide a conclusion that discusses which perspective you think is most applicable to the issue or how the three perspectives complement one another in understanding the issue.

1. Do some Internet research on Chevron’s use of seismic imaging technology. Briefly explain how it works and how it has helped Chevron discover new oil and gas reservoirs. C6-7

2. Do some Internet research on security vulnerabilities associated with SCADA and digital industrial control systems. Summarize the major security concerns associated with these systems and steps than can be taken to enhance their security.

3. Discuss the pros and cons of moving enterprise-wide applications that have traditionally been supported on premises to the cloud.

4. Do some Internet research on identify management and single sign on systems. Briefly explain how these work and why they are important in business intranets and extranets.

5. Why is it increasing most important for a CIO or IT executive who oversees geographically distributed enterprise networks to be business literate?
