Week 7 discussion Addressing Barriers to Effective Communication

Addressing Barriers to Effective Communication

From moment to moment, a nurse leader’s day involves communication—with patients, families, colleagues, supervisors, and so on.

Think of a particular day you spent working in a health care environment, and consider three or four distinct points in time. For each point of time, consider the following: With whom did you interact? Which forms of communication did you use? What issues were communicated about—did they seem to be light-hearted or sensitive? Straightforward or complicated? How would you describe the pace of the interactions and your work?

As you consider these questions, it becomes clear that communication can be quite complex, with many layers of meaning that shape the experience for everyone involved. How could this awareness help you to understand instances of ineffective communication when they arise?

To prepare:

  • Review the information in Chapter 19 of the course text, as well as the assigned articles.
  • Reflect on an incident involving ineffective communication within your organization or another health care setting. Consider this incident through the lens of the communication process outlined in Figure 19.1 of the course text (p. 439).
  • What barriers contributed to this incident? What other challenges may have influenced this situation?
  • Using the information presented in the other Learning Resources, consider what could have been done to prevent or address the ineffective communication. Why do you think the use of these strategies would have resulted in better outcome(s)?

On the Week 7 Discussion Board, post 3

  1. a summary of an incident involving ineffective communication.
  2. Describe communication barriers and other challenges that contributed to the incident.
  3. Propose one or more strategies that could have been employed to promote a better outcome.
  4. Be sure to refer to elements of the communication process.

Describe the role of the NP in promoting quality and safety in the U.S. health care system.

NP and safety

Conduct a literature search to locate at least one article that addresses the role of the nurse practitioner in improving patient safety and quality of care delivered. Once you have done this, prepare a posting in which you:

  • Describe the role of the NP in promoting quality and safety in the U.S. health care system.
  • Propose a minimum of three methods for the NP to ensure continuous improvement in the quality and safety of healthcare systems

How can the methods you described above be integrated into the role of the NP?

Topic 2

Review the QSEN Competency KSAS (Graduate) by clicking HERE.

After reviewing, please address the following in your discussion:

Describe the data contained within the report and interpret the meaning of the information or numbers presented in ONE (1) of the reports within the category.

I need help with my assignment in Marketing curse that i need one page of a company performance

My part of the game is a company so i only include the company part and the need of it. also i attached the pdf down below to view the company and write a one page of the cpmpany performance.

Company:   Provides detailed information about company performance.

There is much information presented in these reports.   The primary objective of this assignment is for each team member to become familiar with the depth of information available to them to make marketing decisions, and to accomplish that without information overload.  Therefore, each team member will develop an understanding of the research reports available in a particular category of reports.  The team leader will then collate and upload the team members’ insights.   In that way, the team members can then read the insights of the other members of the team to develop a deeper understanding of the reports available to them beyond the category they studied.

Each member of the team must be assigned the responsibility to read, understand and describe ONE (1) of the 5 categories of research described above.  Teams with 5 or more members should do all 5 categories (6-member teams can split one of the categories).  Teams with 4 members can pick 4 out of the 5 categories.

The reports are generally found in the PharmaSim Simulation navigation button menu.  Some reports aren’t available there until later in the game.  To find those reports  consult the PharmaSim Student Manual.  The Manual can be accessed on the PharmaSim home page.

After finding the reports, each person should learn about the kinds and depth of information provided by reports in the category they are reviewing, and then write a one page summary of their insights.  (A 5-person team would turn in a 5 page report.)  The summary should include the following information and analysis:

  1. Type and source of Information:   Internal information that comes from company control reports; Environmental information that comes from syndicated market research firms, industry associations, or government sources; or Consumer  information that comes from survey research.
  2. Interpretation:   Describe the data contained within the report and interpret the meaning of the information or numbers presented in ONE (1) of the reports within the category.
  3. Use:   Describe how the information would be used to make marketing decisions.

Explain what happens to the focusing distance y as the object moves far away from the lens.

Algebra Discussion

Asymptotes of Rational Functions

This week you have studied the graphs of rational functions and in particular asymptotes.

In photography fixed focal length means that the focal length is not adjustable. Photographers are unable to zoom in and out on a particular subject when using such a lens. Not being able to easily zoom in on a subject might seem like a huge disadvantage. But such lenses are credited with being able to produce much higher quality pictures in controlled settings.

In order for a film camera with a fixed focal length F to focus on an object located a distance x from the lens, the film must be placed a distance y behind the lens. F, y, and x are related as follows

Now suppose a camera has a lens with focal length F = 65.

  1. Explain what happens to the focusing distance y as the object moves far away from the lens.
  2. Explain what happens to the focusing distance y as the object moves closer and closer to the lens.
  3. In general, why is it not possible to cross a vertical asymptote?

Identify and describe the training information you feel would be most important, if you had only ten minutes to teach law enforcement officers about.

Victims’ Rights and the Dos and Don’ts of Interviewing Crime Victims

Assignment 1: Victims’ Rights and the Dos and Don’ts of Interviewing Crime Victims

You are a police investigator in Centervale. Recently, there have been complaints from prosecutors, as well as several victims, about the interview techniques used by law enforcement (both first responders and investigators). The prosecution is losing cases because of inadmissible statements made to law enforcement by victims and witnesses in response to improper questioning. Because of their bad experiences early in the investigations, some victims refuse to come to court and testify. There are continuous complaints by victim services specialists that first responders do not provide victims with all their rights as governed by law.

The chief of police in Centervale is concerned about lawsuits and unsatisfied victims and asks you, one of the most experienced detectives of the Centervale Police Department, to attend patrol briefings and train officers in some dos and don’ts of interviewing victims of crime, especially women and children. You are also asked to go over some of the most important victims’ rights that could cause the most legal trouble if not followed properly by the Centervale Police Department.

You realize that a proper interviewing lesson could take eight to sixteen hours, and you know law enforcement must strictly follow numerous victims’ rights, but you have been given only fifteen to twenty minutes in which to teach, what you feel is the most important information.

Submission Details:

By 9.00pm Saturday, January 9, 2016, in a minimum of 250 words, post to the Discussion Area your responses to the following:

  • Identify and describe the training information you feel would be most important, if you had only ten minutes to teach law enforcement officers about:
    • Interviewing women and children
    • Crime victims’ rights
  • Give your reasoning for the training information that you identified as most important for both training programs.

Note: Use the textbook readings, the Argosy University online library, and any other outside sources to complete this assignment.
