This discussion has two options from which you will choose one to complete.  After selecting one of the options please indicate which one you chose in your response.

Option A:

Karen confides in you that she feels “down” all the time. She feels hopeless, finds no enjoyment in life (sleep, food, sex, friends, etc.) and is having thoughts of suicide. Based on your study this week, address each of the following:

• Identify if Karen is suffering from major depression or bipolar depression.
• Defend your position with support from the reading noting definitions and key features.
• Indicate what form of treatment would best serve Karen based on the literature.
• Examine how you would respond personally as a mental health professional and what your ethical duties are.

Option B:

Chris can often be found around the house laughing loudly at inappropriate jokes he is telling. When he is not laughing, he is singing or whistling and making non-stop noise as he feels like he has boundless energy. When his daughter gets home, he calls her names and accuses her of doing things she was not. The next day, Chris reports that he feels “down” all the time. He feels hopeless and is having thoughts of suicide.

Based on your study this week, address each of the following:

• Identify if Chris is suffering from major depression or bipolar depression.
• Defend your position with support from the reading noting definitions and key features.
• Indicate what form of treatment you think would best serve Chris from the literature.
• Examine how you would respond personally as a mental health professional and what your ethical duties are.

According to conflict theorists, the persistence of social class inequality can be linked to the educational institutions in the United States. Although education is asserted to be a social equalizer, many argue that the educational system is a mechanism of social reproduction that maintains social inequality rather than ensuring equality of opportunity. For this discussion, you will read Chapters 10 and 11 of the text, Sociology: Beyond Common Sense, and review the article, Foundations of Educational Inequality.

• What factors influence the quality of education that an individual receives?

Global Warming: A Major Concern

According to World Health Organization (WHO), global warming is the primary issues for concern. Noise pollution, overcrowding, traffic jams are some factors that have led to this problem. Lack of privacy is another factor in the modern times that is impacting people in ways that haven’t been examined yet. We also see a wide variance in weather patterns, such as severe hurricanes and drought conditions in the U.S.

Based on your understanding of the topic, create a report in a Microsoft Word document answering the following questions:

• Examine one weather condition over the past two years in the U.S. which drastically affected the population. How can the community better prepare their families for such severe conditions?
• Do you agree with the statement that countries should be held accountable for their contribution to climate change? Why or why not?

According to the CDC website, violence is attributed for approximately fifty thousand deaths each year and results in over 2.5 million injuries. Homicide and suicide are the second and third leading causes of death, respectively, among US population aged fifteen to thirty four years.

Hospital emergency departments treat an average of fifty five people for injuries every minute. The worst after effect of the sudden population explosion across the globe is the rise in violence.

• How have violent injuries affected a community? What steps have communities taken to decrease overall violent crimes?
• What steps can the federal or state governments take to help support communities affected from random or consistent violent acts?
• What can parents do in their homes to help educate children about risks and preventative accidents to help keep them safe? What role should parents take to reduce family violence?
• How can health promotion and wellness programs play a significant role to reduce individual or gang violence?
• How can schools and work environments increase safety measures against violent individuals or gangs entering their establishments?
• What roles should parents, neighbors, friends, health care personnel, and the community take when they observe someone who may exhibit unusual behavior or comments to help prevent potential violence? Assignment 2: Facilities Operations

Lean operations create more value for customers while using fewer resources than traditional operations. In this assignment, you will identify the business planning process for a lean management operation by implementing an information system in a service or manufacturing organization.

Choose a company different from those evaluated in previous assignments. Examples of information systems that reduce waste in organizations could include the following:

• A new inventory tracking software
• An electronic payment system for products and services (For example, aservice organization such as a car wash that currently only accepts cash payments upgrades their systems to accept credit card and PayPal payments.)
• A Web site to receive personalized orders from customers for amanufacturing organization

Based on your analysis of the company, address the following:

• Explain the current business model and discuss the benefits of incorporating the lean process. Describe a specific approach to acquiring and using the lean process.
• Justify the incorporation of a lean approach. Describe the potential effect of the business growth as related to supply chain management. Include safety and precautionary processes to protect the business from fraud.
• Examine the product components for the selected business operation. Include the business management aspects of the process, in addition to information on the following topics:
  • Purchasing operations
  • Outsource delivery
  • Lean tenets
  • The push-pull system
• Create a 1-page, high-level flowchart of the process with a maximum of ten activities. The flowchart should be precise and look professional. If needed, you can download a trial version of visual or graphic design software such as SmartDraw.

Write a 3–5-page paper, including the flowchart, in Word format. Use at least three scholarly articles to complete your research. Your writing should be clear, concise, and organized; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of resources; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
