Table 2: VRIO Definitions and Examples

Third-Order Constructs Questions Sample Illustration
V The Question of Value: Does a resource enable a firm to exploit an environmental opportunity, and/or neutralize an environmental threat?”

The joint venture allowed the firms to exploit an opportunity to sell insurance and capture fee income during a down market environment (recession 2007-2009), and a period of low interest rates (neutralizing a threat).
R

The Question of Rarity: Is a resource currently controlled by only a small number of competing firms?”

The insurer and community bank controls the “virtual agency” and the resource is unique to these two firms. The tangible/intangible resources, which underpin the joint venture and the “virtual” agency, are rare.

I

The Question of Imitability: Do firms without a resource face a cost disadvantage in obtaining or developing it?” Firms would face a disadvantage in that the resource cannot be bought, and to develop it would be cost prohibitive as the insurer has bundled the capacity with others not available to rival firms (e.g., global alliances regarding insurance providers).

O

The Question of Organization: Are a firm’s other policies and procedures organized to support the exploitation of its valuable, rare, and costly-to-imitate resources?” The policies and procedures that the insurer and bank have developed allow a seamless referral generating system, designed to capture a market that is estimated to bring in $10.5 million in net new revenue to the firms.

In four paragraphs, explain the four meanings of the poem “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night.”

Do not go gentle into that good night,

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,

Because their words had forked no lightning they

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright

Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,

And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight

Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,

Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I. FILM ANALYSIS Babies (2010)) Bb(s) (original title)
ONLINE AND TWO (2) HARD COPIES

The babies portrayed in the movie Babies (2010) evidence the presence of some universal developmental themes and stages while at the same time substantiates that each baby is uniquely different. What are the universal themes the filmmakers show present during infancy and toddlerhood lifespan eras? What are the themes that appear to be unique to specific babies?

The four newborns followed during their first year of life and featured in the film:
Ponijao (female)-lives a small village in Namibia, South Africa with parents and eight siblings
Mari (female)-lives in the metropolitan area of Tokyo, Japan with her mother and father
Beyarjargal (male)-lives on a farm Bayanchandmani, Mongolia with his parents and one sibling
Hattie (female)-lives in the heart of San Francisco, California United States with her parents

Steps for writing the paper:

1. Create a title page which includes: The title of the assignment, your name and your Instructors name.

2. The body of the paper will focus on answering the questions below. Copy and paste the questions into a word document, putting the answers after each set of questions and writing at least 2-3 paragraphs for each set of questions. You must tie the materials from your text to your answers to the questions below:
a. What is your impression of the impact of gender on development? What differences did you note in the development of the three girls as compared to the one boy? (20 pts)
b. What does the film suggest about child-rearing practices? Describe the various child-rearing philosophies shown in the film. (20 pts)
c. What do all of the mothers have in common with one another? What do all of the mothers share in their relationships with their babies? Which parenting style did you find most appealing? Why? (20 pts)
d. What did you learn about the impact of culture on growth and development? What differences did you note in development between the three girls and the one boy that reflect the impact of culture? (20 pts)
e. What is your overall reaction to the film? How did the absence of dialogue, narration, and subtitles influence your response to the film? Did the silence distract or enhance your film-watching experience? (5 pts)
f. Were there moments in the film that stood out for you? Which ones? How did they make you feel? (5 pts)

3. Reference page and grammar/spelling
a. Include an APA style reference page which includes the video and your textbook. You must also cite the movie and textbook using APA style within the body of your paper (5 pts) No reference page means a 5-point deduction.
b. Your paper will be graded for grammatical and spelling accuracy (5 pts)

Total words: 600-800 words (show the word count at the end of the paper; 5 point deduction for no word count). The word count CANNOT include the set of questions! You may exceed this limit as long as you are not just reporting the content of the moviemore effort should be put focusing on a specific issue and addressing how your subject relates to it.

Citing the movie in APA format:
If you describe a scene by saying: In the movie Babies (2010) , the title is italicized and the year is in parentheses.
If you describe a scene by saying The babies reflect a typical (Babies, 2010) The title is italicized and both the title and year go in the parentheses before the period at the end of the sentence.
Citing the textbook in APA format:

Are people with mental health problems at increased risk of violent offending?

Students must submit an essay addressing one of the three topics below. In completing the essay students are required to review and include at least five articles published in academic journals that relate to the essay question. Three of these articles should be the ones used in the annotated bibliography assessment. The essays should be clearly argued and reflect your critical thinking on the topic. The tutorial for Week 2/3 will provide guidance about essay writing. Further information will be available in the assessment folder on the portal unit site.
1) Are people with mental health problems at increased risk of violent offending? Discuss.
2) Are interventions with children and adolescents who are at risk of future offending effective? Discuss.
3) Psychological research shows that eyewitness testimony is not always accurate, therefore it should not be used in the criminal justice system. Discuss.
The School of Criminology has an Essay Writing and Study Guide available on its website at https://www4.gu.edu.au/arts/ccj/study_guide/. This will provide you with help in getting started with your essay.

Discuss the methodology used by the authors and how well the methodology was suited to the research question posed and the specific hypotheses tested, if any?

Task: Critically evaluate two empirical research studies (one quantitative, one qualitative) in criminology. Your reflection must address the following set of questions about both research studies:
Research question: What is the research question(s) or problem? Please explain.
Theoretical framework: What was the theoretical framework (i.e., literature review which includes theories and/or past research used to introduce and justify the relevance of the study)? Please discuss the most important elements of the theoretical framework and whether it was appropriate for the research question(s) addressed in this study.
Hypotheses: Were any hypotheses stated? What were these hypotheses? Were these hypotheses justified adequately in terms of the theoretical framework and prior research? Please explain.
Methodology: Was any particular research design used? Was any particular sampling method used? Was a survey, participant observation, qualitative interviews or some other data collection method used? Discuss the methodology used by the authors and how well the methodology was suited to the research question posed and the specific hypotheses tested, if any? Explain why the author(s) chose this particular method?
Results: Discuss the main findings in relation to the research question(s). Discussion and conclusion: What additional research questions and hypotheses are suggested by the study’s results? Discuss the findings in relation to the theoretical framework used and social policy questions.
HINT: Stronger papers will discuss the two research studies together (comparing/contrasting).
Your critical reflection must be 2,000 words, and in essay format (i.e. a reasoned critical reflection in narrative form), use APA referencing guidelines, and follow the formatting requirements set out in the course profile.

Discuss and flesh out the motivation for the economic relationship you are estimating in this paper.

Dependency of Oil Prices on Unemployment Rate, Exports of Goods, and Imports of Goods in Qatar

This paper’s objective is to give you an introduction into conducting an empirical research and presenting the results of that research in a professionally written paper. To carry out this research, you will identify an economic relationship (or a demand equation) between variables that are interesting to you. In your paper, you will describe this relationship and present a lucid argument for the importance of a better understanding of this relationship. And then, collecting appropriate data, you will empirically estimate this relationship along with all of the appropriate goodness of fit tests and statistics. Finally, you will analyze and report the results of your empirical estimation with particular emphasis on how these results are important and useful for a manager of a business enterprise or an economic agent faced with a choice. Your final report must contain the following sections:

a. Brief Introduction – Discuss and flesh out the motivation for the economic relationship you are estimating in this paper. While you do not have to go into lengthy discussions about the underlying economic theory, it should be sufficiently detailed so the relationship you are estimating is made clear to the reader. In this section, you should include a short discussion of the literature. Be sure to tell a story: why do you think your independent and dependent variables are related? While it does not need to be exhaustive, pick three to five papers to frame your research and show how it fits in with prior research. [One way to do this is to tie in your hypotheses with what other researchers have found.]

b. Data Description – Give a brief discussion of the data and how/where they were collected. At the minimum, you should note the time range of the data, scales of the data (i.e., data in millions of dollars or thousands of tons, etc.), and any notable events that may be applicable to your data set (such as change in corporate ownership or natural disasters, etc.). Also, you should describe the institutional setting of your data. (E.g., you should discuss the business with an eye towards how some unique industry practices might have an impact on the specific data that you had collected.) Also include a table of basic descriptive statistics for your data. Your description of the data would be aided by carefully drawn, well-labeled charts and graphs of your data.

c. Regression Model and Results – Carefully develop your regression model. You must support your model with a “story” of why the right hand side variables you include are important and/or with the support of the relevant economic theory (including your hypotheses). Report your regression results in an equation form (see the textbook for how this is done) or a table form. Be sure to report all relevant statistics: coefficient estimates, standard error, R2, various test statistics, etc.

d. Discussion and Diagnostic Tests – Carry out all appropriate “goodness of fit” tests and briefly discuss the “fit” of your regression equation. Which form is the preferred: linear or log-linear? Explain your conclusion. Finally, carefully describe what your empirical results are telling you about your hypothesized economic relationship that you had outlined in part a.

e. Conclusion – What does your regression tell you about the demand in the industry? What more can be done in the future?

While there will not be a hard page limit for this paper, overall, this mini report should be ten to twelve double spaced pages long with 1” margins, not including tables and diagrams (plots of your data, if you are including them).

Please keep in mind that the objective of this mini project is to get your hands dirty working with a data set that is interesting to you. As such, we are not looking to break new theoretical ground – just come up with a simple economic relationship and model it using a simple yet robust regression.

Style requirements: please use either APA or Chicago/Turabian citation styles. For additional citation information, see a librarian or the library’s website.

Final papers are submitted via Chalk & Wire . This report should contain the five sections described on page 1 along with:
a) Simple cover page
b) References (Three sources minimum, must be in proper format)
c) Appendix (at minimum include excel spreadsheet printout of the regression(s), other possibilities include data description, data sources, etc.)

Second is the notes in ppt. Please follow them

Third is a sample to make the writer understand how he should critically analyze and make the a good arguments.

I’m sure you have been used to do a critical analysis of the essay by making an argument and NOT describing the topic.

Support your idea by reference will also increase my mark.

Please try to understand the notes of the tutor which are in ppt I have attached. Make sure you make an argument and not only description.

Important notes:

Make an argument, don’t just describe the work of others.

Look for puzzles, tensions, contradictions, connections between authors and studies.

Start with a clear introduction and end with a compelling conclusion.
