Using a Storybook to Involve Families

As you have learned, one way to involve families is to use storybooks. For this assignment you will first review theHarvard Family Research Project Storybook Corner and read the overview regarding the Family Involvement Network Project and the Family Involvement Storybook Project. Read Tomasito’s Mother Comes to School and the accompanying activities.

Choose a book from Harvard Family Research Project: Family Involvement Storybook Selections or fromReading is Fundamental: Multicultural Booklist.

Then, from the resources above and your readings from the text, create a lesson to engage children and their families. Your lesson should include the following elements and should be four-six pages in length not including the title and references page. You will need to include at least three credible sources, one of which must be your text. Use all three sources to cite your work and be sure to use correct APA formatting as per the Ashford Writing Center Guidelines.

  • Summarize the text in your own words.
  • Describe your rationale for choosing the book and state what you hope to accomplish by using it with your students and their families. Write a family letter about your chosen story book and invite families to attend school to take part in group activities related to the book.
  • Create at least five discussion questions to use with your students and their families.
  • Describe two different activities that can be completed by families and their children in the classroom. Be sure to cite your source(s) for these activities.
  • Describe one activity that can be completed by the family at home. Be sure to cite your source for this activity.
  • Create an evaluation form to solicit feedback from parents and students to assess the value of this

What effect will reclassifying a long term investment into cash within one year have on the current ratio?

The current ratio measures the degree to which current assets cover current liabilities. A high ratio indicates a good probability that the company can retire current debt. When long term debt exceeds stockholder’s equity, the current ratio will fall.

What effect will reclassifying a long term investment into cash within one year have on the current ratio?

Is a firm’s true financial position stronger as a result of reclassifying investments?

What are the ethical ramifications of re-classifying investments?

Anne is 10 years old and lives in a major metropolitan U.S. city and is currently in the 4th grade. Today, during gym class, Anne’s teacher notices several large bruises on all of Anne’s arms and legs and that her clothing is torn and dirty. When the teacher questions Anne about how she got the bruises, Anne replies “I fell on the playground.” The teacher reports the bruising to the school principal. The teacher and principal request Anne’s mother attend a conference after school.

During the conference, Anne’s mother is difficult to communicate with. She appears to be intoxicated, but denies having had anything to drink. She is also very defensive, states that Anne is a clumsy, lazy child and that Anne lies to get attention. The mother denies that anyone has physically hurt Anne. During the conference, Anne sits next to her mother but does not make eye contact with anyone in the room, nor does she speak. When questioned as to why Anne’s father could not attend the conference, Anne’s mother replies that he was too tired because he works two jobs and has to sleep during the day. Anne and her mother leave the conference and Anne is not in school the next day.As Anne’s teacher, you are a mandated reporter, meaning you must notify authorities of suspected cases of child abuse and neglect. You are very concerned about Anne, but you aren’t sure if what you have observed rises to the level of abuse or neglect.

  • Write a 1-2 page memo to the principal regarding Anne. You are allowed to take one of two positions.
    1. Anne is the victim of abuse/neglect.
      • If you take this position, you must list the rationale including signs/symptoms, parental concerns, and contacts with Anne.
    2. Anne is not the victim of abuse/neglect.
      • If you take this position, you must list the rationale including mitigating factors, parental strengths, and contacts with Anne.
  • Make a recommendation to your principal about whether or not you should contact child welfare services

What type of radiation is typically exploited in most nuclear medicine procedures?

Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear medicine is a specialized branch of modern medicine that exploits the process of radioactivity for imaging, diagnosis, and treatment. Many imaging techniques inject small amounts of radioactive material into the body, which are then tracked by a sensing device specific to the type of radiation emitted from that material. Radiation has also been used to destroy diseased tissue, typically beyond the reach of standard surgical techniques.

Using the readings for this module, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, write a paper on nuclear medicine. Address the following:

  • Explain the scientific and technical concepts related to nuclear medicine. Consider the following questions when you construct your response:
    • What type of radiation is typically exploited in most nuclear medicine procedures?
    • How are patients prepared for nuclear medicine procedures?
    • What are the advantages and limitations of nuclear medicine?
    • What ailments are typically diagnosed and treated via nuclear medicine procedures?
  • Evaluate a minimum of three applications of nuclear medicine relating to any of the following topics:
    • Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans
    • Gallium scans
    • Indium white blood cell scans
    • Iobenguane scans (MIBG)
    • Octreotide scans
    • Hybrid scanning techniques employing X-ray computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
    • Nuclear medicine therapy using radiopharmaceuticals

Support your statements with examples. Provide a minimum of three scholarly references.

Write a 2–3-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention:

What can you as an individual do to help prevent child abuse and neglect?

discussion questions

  1. Think about this…and comment. This is my favorite (well, maybe I don’t have a favorite since I wrote them all) DB question. It’s probably my favorite because we have all been there.
  2. What did you do when you were in Walmart, in the toy section, and you saw a mother yelling at her child and then slapping him because he wouldn’t be quiet. He wanted a toy and she didn’t want to (or couldn’t afford to) buy it for him. I know you have all been there (I have too). Which of the following should you do?
    • Approach the mother and inform her that what she is doing a child abuse
    • Quickly go down another aisle
    • Tell the store manager
    • Call the cops
    • Perhaps, like the majority of people, question yourself….”is that really child abuse”?….and go about your shopping
  3. Please provide your opinion to this and respond to at least two other student’s posts for full credit.

2. How do you feel?

  1. Should child abusers be punished? Why?
  2. Is there a better, or different, way to deal with child abusers and/or those that neglect children?
  3. Does it, or should it, make a difference if the abuse/neglect is within the family or outside the family?
  4. Please provide your opinion to this and respond to at least two other student’s posts for full credit.

3.

  1. What are some of the skills needed to interview children?
  2. What are some of the problems encountered when interviewing children?
  3. What might need to be avoided?
  4. Please provide your opinion to this and respond to at least two other student’s posts for full credit.

4.

  1. What is your opinion of how a sexual abuser (sex offender) should be treated (treatment in the sense of ‘being treated’) after conviction of their crime. Be sure to consider factors such as sex offender registration, which requires the offender to notify the police of change of address and imposes restrictions on their freedom (where you may go or live); reflect upon how the treatment and restrictions imposed on sex offenders compares to other convicted criminal offenders. Give this some deep thought.
  2. Please provide your opinion to this and respond to at least two other student’s posts for full credit.

5

  1. What can you as an individual do to help prevent child abuse and neglect?
  2. Please provide your opinion to this and respond to at least two other student’s posts for full credit.

6. This is the last DB question that you have to answer for this course, but hopefully not the last discussion you have on the topic of child abuse/neglect prevention and investigation.

As a reminder to do your part….remember that April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. You can also join organizations like BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse), the Exchange Club (who champions for abused children), or become a CASA  (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer .

  1. Express your thoughts on children who are victims of abuse/neglect. Will they grow up and because abusers themselves?
  2. If so, how do we end the cycle of violence?
  3. Please provide your opinion to this and respond to at least two other student’s posts for full credit.
