How are the firms financing their assets?

Financial ratios are the principal tool of financial analysis. Ratios standardize the financial information of firms so comparisons can be made between firms of varying sizes. Choose two firms in the same sector; locate their current financial information both in terms of current financial statements and stock market prices. With the information, do a paper of 8-10 pages, with the following headings:

  • How liquid are the firms?
  • Are the firm’s managers generating adequate operating profits on the company’s assets?
  • How are the firms financing their assets?
  • Are the firm’s managers providing a good return on the capital provided by the shareholders?
  • Are the firms’ managers creating shareholder value?

What is the overall philosophy behind the treatment methods?

The term “alternative medicine” implies that CAM treatments fall outside the realm of medicine.

Using South University Online Library or the Internet, research on the following practices included under CAM:

  • Chinese medicine
  • Herbalism

From your experiences and knowledge in the health care field, answer the following questions:

  • Does the promotion or lack of promotion of CAM techniques confirm this gap in healing modalities? Explain how?
  • Why might traditional health care providers be reluctant in suggesting or implementing CAM techniques?
  • The side effects of traditional medicines are becoming increasingly referenced, especially in the media. Conversely, one rarely hears about the cautions of selecting alternative treatments, leading individuals to seek more natural treatments found in CAM practice. What is the problem of polarizing healing techniques in this way?

You will apply the knowledge and techniques of CAM models, specifically traditional Chinese medicine, including herbal medicine for a selected illness. Using the perspective of traditional allopathic medicine, answer the following questions:

  • What is the overall philosophy behind the treatment methods?
  • According to the treatment paradigm, what are the possible causes of the patient’s symptoms?
  • What additional information may the practitioners require?
  • What interventions may be utilized through these methods (how will the condition be treated)?
  • What are the benefits and risks of using these methods of treatment?

Based on your understanding, create a 5- to 6-page Microsoft Word document that includes the answers to all the above questions.

Your response should adhere to the following guidelines:

  • It should have 5- to 6-pages not including a cover page, an abstract and a reference list.
  • There should be a title or a cover page.
  • The title or the cover page must be followed by an abstract of 100–200 words.
  • The paper must use the APA style for citing sources and references.
  • The paper must have a minimum of eight current references. Note that primary, peer-reviewed references are preferred.

Obtaining informed consent for services from clients

Obtaining informed consent for services from clients is required of human services providers; however, it is not always an easy task. Clients typically grant consent by signing documents presented by the agency or the provider that, at minimum, explain the services that will be provided, the client rights, and information on the steps to rescind the consent.

In situations where minors or individuals under some form of guardianship are the clients, it is necessary to obtain consent from the legal guardian or authority. However, there are times when obtaining informed consent is not as simple as asking for a signature from the client or guardian. These situations require more thought by the human services providers with emphasis on balancing the client’s right to consent with other factors that might influence treatment outcomes or decisions.

In this assignment, you will review a case that illustrates the various facets of informed consent.

The Case:

Smith is a thirty-eight-year-old African American male referred for counseling by his mother to address recent incidents of aggression. Smith resides with his mother because he is not able to live on his own. Smith is unable to hold on to a job and has difficulty establishing and maintaining relationships with others. He is open to counseling but thinks his mother is overreacting to his anger outbursts because she is old and does not understand him. Recently, there have been notable conflicts between them due to Smith’s aggressive behaviors that were directed toward his mother.

Tasks:

Analyze the case and in a 2- to 3-page paper, address the following:

  • Would you, as the counselor, include his mother in the c
  • What steps would you, as the counselor, take for obtaining informed consent from Smith?
  • ounseling sessions, if you believe it would help with Smith’s aggression problem? Why or why not?

In your answers, consider the following:

  • Smith is not able to live independently.
  • Smith’s aggression might put his mother at risk if he does not get counseling.
  • Smith has to comprehend what is being asked of him when he provides his consent to receive counseling services.
  • There might be cultural differences between you and Smith.

Describe McKinnon in the context of the frameworks and theories of cyber-crime and cyber criminals discussed in the classroom.

Alleged computer hacker Gary McKinnon of the United Kingdom has publicly admitted to compromising computer systems belonging to NASA and the Department of Defense. Using information from your classroom, additional materials provided by your instructor, and your own independent research, discuss the impact of these widespread intrusions, and comment on McKinnon’s self-proclaimed motivations. Describe McKinnon in the context of the frameworks and theories of cyber-crime and cyber criminals discussed in the classroom. Are the efforts to extradite McKinnon to the United States simply a political stunt, or are they an important precedent in prosecuting international cyber-crimes? Finally, share what you know about computer security and best practices to make recommendations to prevent similar incidents in the future. Your submission should be a minimum of four pages in length, and it should conform to APA formatting and citation standards. A title page and reference list (APA style) are mandatory, but they will not count toward the four-page requirement.

Explain how each of the three sociological perspectives (structural-functionalism, symbolic interactionism, and social conflict) would analyze what you say.

The goal of field observation is to obtain “thick descriptions” (as described by Clifford Geertz in The Interpretation of Cultures) of a setting or group from the perspective of the participants, and to explain what you observe using insights from the sociological perspective.

Observe the activities at a public place for two hours. Choose a place where you do not need to ask permission to stay and will not get in trouble for observing what is going on. This can be a coffee shop, a farmer’s market, a mall, a religious service, a train station, a courtroom, etc. Avoid schools, hospitals, anything on a military base, or any other restricted place. Make sure to go at a time when there will be a lot of activity. Take some notes about what is happening: What does this place look like? How is it organized spatially? Who comes here? What do they do? How do people interact with each other? What kind of conversations go on? Are there any subgroups? How do people handle unexpected or upsetting situations?

Write a narrative summary of your notes describing what you experienced. Then, explain how each of the three sociological perspectives (structural-functionalism, symbolic interactionism, and social conflict) would analyze what you say. Your description of your observation should represent about 50% of your paper and your analysis another 50%, divided evenly between the three perspectives. At the end of your paper, discuss which perspective you think is the best suited to analyze your observation and why you think so. Whenever appropriate, link the information you present to concepts, theories, facts, and core values of “community and social justice” from the course.

You may use additional resources, provided they are appropriately cited. You are required to use the American Sociological Association (ASA) formatting style to format your paper and sources. Information on ASA is available in the course under Resources. For additional information on plagiarism, click here to view a 15-minute video lesson by Dr. Patricia Campion. You will be prompted to enter your SLU Portal username and password to gain access to the video. Once the video starts playing (may take a few minutes to load), forward it to Slide 28 titled, “Am I Plagiarizing? Why, or why not?” and view through Slide 195.

The paper will be a minimum of seven (7) pages in length and include a title page and a reference page, using a standard 12-point font. You may use additional resources, provided they are appropriately cited. You are required to use the American Sociological Association (ASA) formatting style to format your paper and sources. Information on ASA is available in the course under Resources.

Describe how this technology will influence world politics. Include an analysis of economic issues such as production, supply, and trade.

A hybrid car is a motor vehicle that uses two or more different sources of power. In most hybrids, you will find an internal combustion engine in addition to an electrical motor. Depending on how the vehicle is driven and the availability of power, the car uses gasoline and battery power alternately.

In this assignment, you will research five different hybrid cars and evaluate their impact on the environment.

Using the readings for this module, and the Internet, do the following:

  • Identify the top five most popular choices of hybrid cars. Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of each car’s technology, price, manufacturing, and impact on environment. Include the scientific principles involved in the technology.
  • Determine which type of car would work best for you and your family. Justify your decision based on your analysis of the five hybrid cars.
  • Explain the impact these cars will have on the United States’ economy. Consider the following issues in your analysis: consumer buying, sustainability, recycling, and fuel economy.
  • Evaluate the impact that hybrid-car technology has had or could have on the United States’ political relationships with oil-producing countries. Be sure to include an analysis of economic issues such as production, supply, and trade.
  • Describe how this technology will influence world politics. Include an analysis of economic issues such as production, supply, and trade.

Support your statements with examples. Use a minimum of six reliable references, two of which should be peer-reviewed articles.

Write a 4–6-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Explain how they might promote positive social change.

Post an explanation of the impact of ethical decision making on positive social change. Summarize specific examples of the ethical decisions you proposed throughout the course and explain how they might promote positive social change. Finally, explain any negative impacts in terms of social change that this decision making might have.

Discuss the techniques that many organizations use to ensure that their Windows networks are secure.

Microsoft Windows computers can be very useful by themselves, but they are far more effective when they are able to communicate with one another. In an essay, answer the following questions based on this study:

Discuss the techniques that many organizations use to ensure that their Windows networks are secure. Additionally, examine how to connect computers together without risking your organization’s information to loss, alteration, or disclosure. Provide information from your readings to support your statements.

What are the Net Present Value and/or project’s Payback Period?

Now that we have covered some of the basic concepts in managerial accounting, we might want talk a little about the final project so you can keep the objectives of the project in mind as you work through the next few chapters. For your final project due in Week 8, you will create a new/enhanced program proposal.

You may complete this as an individual or team exercise. You may complete any of the following formats:

  • Submit a new program proposal (Possibly one that you and/or your firm is working on now or recently completed)
  • Submit a proposal for capital equipment or a new position
  • Submit a business proposal for a new business ( A new “start-up” venture that you or a group of people are contemplating)

Prepare a proposal using either the format provided in class or a format you would be required to use in your present company. The proposal can focus on cost savings or revenue-generating programs. I strongly suggest that you use a program that you have or plan to propose to the organization for which you work. It is much easier to work with actual figures than to make up a fictitious company and researching what the possible figures might be. The proposal should include (but is not limited to) the following information:

  • Briefly describe the program and its relationship to the organizational mission.
  • How will you price your product, what is the mark up.
  • Discuss the return on investment.
  • What are the Net Present Value and/or project’s Payback Period?
  • If capital equipment is involved, is there a lease versus buy decision.
  • Do you require new personnel, if so complete the appropriate form and submit a job description?
  • How will you fund this new program?
  • Create a 1 year budget for the program.
  • If this is a new business, what is the legal structure and what method of accounting will you use and why.

This document should be no more than 10 pages. The cover sheet should include the type of proposal you are submitting, the name of your team members (if applicable) and their role in the project. Second page should be an executive summary giving a brief description of the project and any information you find pertinent (maximum 250 words).

Format is important, and you are expected to present the information in an attractive, professional manner. If your use references, please make sure they are cited either in the footnotes or at the end of the paper. A title page and a table of contents lends to the organization of the paper. The document must be double-spaced, and professionally prepared (i.e., using basic APA style and/or www.isiresearchsoft.com for bibliographic formatting resources) spell-checked, clearly organized, and clearly summarized, with accurate citations for all referenced work.

You may only use Microsoft Word or Excel to develop your paper; remember that you must show your calculations. Papers submitted in .pdf format are also acceptable.

If you include proprietary information from your organization, please mark your paper confidential to ensure that its contents will not be used as an example in future classes.

Lastly, please make sure that the project employs some form of financial statements, capital expenditure worksheets, and/or any other pertinent accounting support schedules that we will employ throughout this course. Every project that is submitted must have some numerical support and accounting schedules, not just a written analysis. We need to practice integrating both numbers in words in our analyses throughout the MBA program at BU.
