What will be done and how will you know that the plan has worked?

BUS 610 Organizational Behavior Week 5 Assignment Understanding and Coping with Change

Understanding and Coping with Change

Change is everywhere, yet very few people seem to embrace the concept. We are, for the most part, creatures of habit and follow daily routines. When change occurs, our activities and thought patterns are disrupted.

Write a four- to five-page APA formatted paper (excluding the title and reference pages), using a minimum of three scholarly sources in addition to the textbook, analyzing the internal and external factors contributing to an individual’s resistance to change.

Describe a situation where you or someone you know was resistant to change as identified in one of following areas:

  1. Self-interest
  2. Lack of understanding
  3. Lack of trust in management
  4. Differing assessments of the need for change
  5. Low tolerance for change

Explain whether the resistance to change was caused by an internal or external factor. Using Kotter’s theory for change, provide a plan for overcoming that resistance. What will be done and how will you know that the plan has worked?

What style of leadership is the most effective in leading an organization?

Answer

Explain the principal theories and the various approaches to management that have evolved over time and their application to current management situations.

Google is widely known for its workplace creativity and innovation within the technology field. Its search engine is the most extensively used search tool in the world, its data analytics are revolutionary, and it continues to raise the bar for innovation and design with Google Glass, smart watches, and mobile phones. Google has been featured in dozens of technology and business magazines.

Additionally, Fortune Magazine’s list of the “Best Companies to Work For 2014” has ranked Google number one (#1). This ranking is largely due to employee benefits such as free meals, dry cleaning services, video games, massage therapy, in-door gyms, shuttle services, and affordable daycare services for employees.

In addition to your textbook, review the following articles and videos about Google’s work culture in preparation for this assignment:

1.       Briefly describe Google, its mission, and its business model.

2.       Analyze the types of people that work at Google, with respect to the business culture of the organization. Indicate one to two (1-2) qualities that define a leader at Google, and determine the typical background of a Google employee.

3.       Identify two (2) examples of services or amenities that Google provides to its employees, interns, partners, and visitors. Next, examine two to three (2-3) ways in which such free services and amenities create an organizational culture that fosters creativity and innovation. Note: In the context of business, “creativity” means having the ability to conceive something new and original, including ideas, imagination, and things that are outside of the box. “Innovation” is the implementation and execution of something new, including products, technology, services, and business models.

4.       Discuss Google’s organizational culture, and determine whether or not you would prefer to work in this type of environment. Indicate whether or not Google’s company culture would help you to perform your tasks with a greater degree of creativity and innovation. Provide a rationale for your response.

5.       Use at least three (3) quality references. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as academic resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Describe the primary functions of management (planning, organizing, leading, controlling) and the associated skills, tools, and theoretical approaches that can be used to accomplish these functions.
  • Explain the principal theories and the various approaches to management that have evolved over time and their application to current management situations.
  • Explain the decision-making process management uses to develop viable courses of action to a variety of management situations.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in management concepts.
  • Write clearly and concisely about management concepts using proper writing mechanics

1) Which patient scored the highest on the preoperative CVLT Acquisition? What was his or her T score?

2) Which patient scored the lowest on postoperative CVLT Retrieval? What was this patient’s T score?

3) Did the patient in Question 2 have more of a memory performance decline than average on the CVLT Retrieval? Provide a rationale for your answer.

4) What is the mean (X) and standard deviation (SD) for preoperative T score for CVLT Acquisition?

5) Is the preoperative Retrieval T score for Patient 5 above or below the mean for the norm of the group? Provide a rationale for your answer.

6) Assuming that the distribution of the preoperative CVLT Retrieval T scores is normal, the middle 68% of the patients had T scores between what two values?

7) Assuming that the distribution of scores for the postoperative CVLT Retrieval T scores is normal, the middle 68% of the patients had T scores between what two values?

8) The researchers state that it appears that the functional integrity of the left temporal lobe, despite evidence of structural abnormality, plays a considerable role when it comes to memory outcomes following left ATL. Can the findings from this study be generalized to a larger population? Provide a rationale for your answer.

9) If a patient had a raw score = 30, what would his/her postoperative CVLT Retrieval T score be?

10) Did patients demonstrate more postoperative memory declines among CVLT Retrieval T scores than CVLT Acquisition T scores? Provide a rationale for your answer.

Analyze where the focus of the company’s efforts should be if Beck wants to expand capacity.

Week 4 Beck Manufacturing and Plant Capacity

Read the “Beck Manufacturing” case study in Chapter 8 of your text. In a three- to four-page paper, address the following:

a. Calculate the capacity of each machine center and the capacity of the system.

b. Analyze where the focus of the company’s efforts should be if Beck wants to expand capacity. Determine how much extra capacity he can get without causing another operation to become the bottleneck.

c. Suggest ways Beck can expand capacity without purchasing new equipment.

Your paper should be in paragraph form (avoid the use of bullet points) and supported with the concepts outlined in your text and additional scholarly sources

Submit your three- to four-page paper (not including the title and reference pages). Your paper must be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center and must cite at least three scholarly sources in addition to the textbook.

Case study is as follows:

Al Beck, president of Beck manufacturing, wants to determine the capacity of his facility, which produces steering gears for auto manufacturers. He has asked you to sort through the data and determine the capacity of the system and how that capacity may be increased. The operation is a product layout that produces large numbers of nearly identical products. The process includes milling, grinding, boring, drilling, and assembling, in that order. Each finished product requires one operation on each type of machine. For example, each finished part is processed on one of the five milling machines, one of the seven grinding machines, etc.

The facility runs two 8-hour shifts per day, with a third shift for maintenance. The industrial engineering department has provided you with the following data on present operations. In addition, you have been told that assembly operations, while not unlimited, can be easily changed to meet the need.

Operation Number of Machines Run Time per Piece (min.) % Reject Rate

Milling 5 2 3

Grinding 7 3 5
