Prompt: Find an Op-Ed that discusses any law enacted by the Texas Legislature in the last six years. Find an interesting, controversial law that generated a good deal of discussion. Especially look for law that could affect your life or the lives of those you know. Read the Op-Ed. What does the law call for – what will be its effect? What is the argument made by the author of the Op-Ed – is it for or against the law. What arguments on the other side do you think could be made. As a member of this team, you will need to choose 1 treatment model used in the type of treatment facility your team has decided to recommend. Also, how would you go about developing a plan using that treatment model to address 1 current issue that you will work to improve upon at a new treatment facility? Each group member should pick a different issue to address for his or her individual portion. For example, you might choose one of the following issues: dual diagnosis issues; MR/DD and addictions; mental illness and addictions; addictions and violence; domestic violence; violence in the workplace; criminal activity; sexual abuse; or child abuse and neglect. The Global War on Terror has introduced a new phenomenon on the modern battlefield: private contractors. Contractors have taken on new roles as support service providers to the U.S. military and have assumed security force roles involving active combat.

Identify at least two ethical problems with using private contractors in combat operations such as those that are currently used to support operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Do you believe that private contractors used to support contractors are actually mercenaries?
