What have you learned about your own biases and how to decrease them, if necessary?

Assignment 1: Discussion—Understanding Ageism

Myths and negative stereotypes about the elderly population have negative effects on the assessment and treatment of elderly clients. The most common untrue myths are that most aged individuals are irritable, angry, or unhappy; that older drivers have more vehicle accidents compared to younger drivers; that most live alone; or that aged individuals are more likely than younger people to be victims of crime (Palmore, 2005).

A human services worker’s attitude toward the elderly can negatively affect his/her treatment of elderly clients. The degree to which a human services worker can be free of such stereotypes against the elderly will improve the care the client will receive.

Use the Internet, your textbook, and the Argosy University online library resources to research ageism.

  • The Age Implicit Association Test (IAT) measures the degree to which humans prefer young versus old faces. Take the IAT test at the following link: https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/demo/
  • Read the article by Palmore, “Three decades of research on ageism,” at the following link:

    http://search.proquest.com.libproxy.edmc.edu/pqcentral/docview/212189992/fulltextPDF/1410D4705852D62E30C/1?accountid=34899

  • Use the IAT test results to answer each of the following questions. Give reasons for your responses using the findings of the article, “Three decades of research on ageism,” in support.
    • What did the Web site indicate was your outcome? Did you have a strong or weak preference for young faces?
    • What have you learned about your own biases and how to decrease them, if necessary?
    • Suppose a human services worker has IAT results indicating a very strong preference for young faces and also has a likely corresponding tendency toward age discrimination. What steps could he/she take to lower the tendency toward age discrimination in order to be a more effective provider of services to elderly clients? Give at least two steps.

Write your initial response in a minimum of 350 words. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

By Saturday, January 16, 2016, post your response to the appropriate Discussion Area. Through Wednesday, January 20, 2016, review and comment on at least two peers’ responses. Provide a statement of clarification, a point of view with rationale, challenge a point of discussion, or draw a relationship between one or more points of the discussion of at least two other students.

Unit V Research Project

Marketing Plan

This week you will continue your comprehensive marketing plan researching the SAME company that you researched in previous units. Again, utilizing the CSU Online Library, you will research the various elements of the marketing plan as it relates to this company. In Unit V you will provide a comprehensive discussion of place or distribution strategies of your company.

Place

This section will provide a comprehensive look at the distribution strategy of your organization. Begin with an identification of the distribution channels that should include the entire path that the products travel from the “manufacturer” to the final consumer. This might involve manufacturing plants, wholesalers, distributors, retailers and various other intermediaries. Why and how does your company use these intermediaries? Many companies use multiple channels, particularly with the advent of the internet (which is considered a direct channel). Another element to include is a description of a physical facility. This might include a manufacturing plant, bottling plant, retail location, or even a unique merchandising effort.

Competitive Advantage

Because competitive advantage is an important goal of every company, address whether your company has a competitive advantage WITH RESPECT TO PLACE. The idea is to discuss whether your company has a competitive advantage with respect to how they distribute their products. This should discuss their distribution channel and maybe a unique retail location (if pertinent). Again, this section should only discuss whether your company has a competitive advantage with respect to place (product, price and promotion are discussed in other sections). Once you have stated your position, remember to include your rationale.

Your submission should be a minimum of two pages in length, double-spaced with a reference page and title page. References should include at least one additional, credible reference beyond the textbook. All sources used must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations and cited per APA guidelines. Include the use of subheadings (this week consider using Place and Competitive Advantage in Place).

Consider the guidelines for generating questions presented in this week’s Learning Resources.

Data collection is an important part of both quantitative and qualitative research. Although the actual approach to gathering information may vary, for either research design, researchers need to plan in advance how the data will be gathered, reported, and stored, and they need to ensure that their methods are both reliable and valid. As nurses review research when considering a new evidence-based practice, it is important to be familiar with sound collection practices in order to ascertain the credibility of the data presented.

Consider the following scenario:

Nurses and other health care professionals are often interested in assessing patient satisfaction with health care services. Imagine that you are a nurse working in a suburban primary care setting that serves 10,000 patients annually. Your organization is very interested in understanding the patient’s point of view to help determine areas of care that can be improved. With this focus in mind, consider how you would create a survey to assess patient satisfaction with the services your organization provides. You may wish to consider variables such as the ease of accessing care, patient wait time, friendliness of the staff, or the likelihood that a patient would recommend your organization to others.

For this Discussion, you generate questions and an overall plan for data collection that would be appropriate for a patient satisfaction survey in relation to the above scenario.

To prepare:

  • Consider the guidelines for generating questions presented in this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Review the scenario and formulate at least five questions that you could use to evaluate patient satisfaction.
  • Reflect on the different methods or instruments that can be used for gathering data described in Chapter 13 and Chapter 22 of the course text. Which methods or instruments would work well for the scenario?
  • Determine an appropriate sample size for the scenario.

Post on or before Day 3 the questions that you created for gathering information about patient satisfaction based on the above scenario. Explain which method or instrument you would use to gather data. Describe the sample size appropriate for the population and how you would select participants. Provide

Consider how the resources identified in the scenario above could influence an organization’s practice.

Using Health Information Technology as a Source of Evidence-Based Practice

Before the digital revolution, health information technology supplied very limited support for evidence-based practice. If nurses wanted to be informed about cutting-edge research, their best bet was to either subscribe to leading journals or make periodic trips to the library. With the establishment of research databases, however, nurses became empowered to learn about and facilitate interdisciplinary and translational research. Databases are just one example of how health information technology supports evidence-based practice.

To prepare:

  • Read the following scenario from the text (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2011, p. 482):
    • Twelve-hour shifts are problematic for patient and nurse safety, and yet hospitals continue to keep the 12-hour shift schedule. In 2004, the Institute of Medicine (Board on Health Care Services & Institute of Medicine, 2004) published a report that referred to studies as early as 1988 that discussed the negative effects of rotating shifts on intervention accuracy. Workers with 12-hour shifts realized more fatigue than workers on 8-hour shifts. In another study done in Turkey by Ilhan, Durukan, Aras, Turkcuoglu, and Aygun (2006), factors relating to increased risk for injury were age of 24 or less, less than 4 years of nursing experience, working in the surgical intensive care units, and working for more than 8 hours.
  • Consider how the resources identified in the scenario above could influence an organization’s practice.
  • Select an issue in your practice that is of concern to you. Using health information technology, locate at least three evidence-based practice resources that address your concern and that could possibly inform further action.

Post on or before Day 3 a description of your practice concern. Outline how you used health information technology to locate evidence-based practices that address this concern. Cite and include insights from the resources. Analyze how health information technology supports evidence-based practice

Explain why “finding a Bright Spot” is often more helpful than creating a brand new system for change.

HLTH 419 Discussion Board 1

Paying no more than 10.00 on this one.  I just paid a huge bill, so that’s all I got.

As the Heath & Heath text asserts, making change is often quite challenging. But to increase the potential and probability of lasting change, a person or organization needs to learn how to direct, motivate, and shape certain aspects of the change process. One way to direct the process of change is to find the Bright Spots. Based upon the content found in chapter 2 of the text, complete the following components:

  • Define the term “Bright Spot” (in your own words).
  • Discuss how or why “finding Bright Spots” is helpful to the change process.
  • Explain why “finding a Bright Spot” is often more helpful than creating a brand new system for change.

Make sure to include at least 1 reference to the text in your thread.

What are her criticisms of how other scholars have defined this term?

Cinema history response paper

Please write a 300 word response to the following prompt.

Have you seen any films that you would have classified as “World Cinema” before reading Lucia Nagib’s essay, “Towards a Positive Definition of World Cinema”? If so, share something about the experience that stayed with you. After reading her essay, how would you define World Cinema? Her essay provokes the question: Whose “world” does World Cinema refer to? What are her criticisms of how other scholars have defined this term? How and why does it matter according to her? What do you think? Reflect on how your experience and place in the world shapes the way you see World Cinema. If The World by Jia Zhang-ke is the first film that you’ve seen that you would classify as World Cinema, use a specfic example from the film to flesh out your response to the question. You may also use examples from other films you’ve seen if you think they fit the bill. (Include the title and director’s name.)

How is it different from intuition or common sense?

psychological science essays

There are 3 essays below that need to be done. I have attached the chapters of the textbook that the answers are in. Please reference the textbook as well as any other sources. No plargism. They need to be lengthy.

Q 1: Define psychology. How is it different from intuition or common sense? ( See Ch 1, the Introduction and Sec 1.1).

Q. 2: Define and provide your own example of the following: a) a positive correlation, and b) a negative correlation. Why are correlations important to psychology? What are the problems with correlations? (See Ch 2, Sec 2.2)

Q. 3: Can science answer question A or question B below? If so, briefly explain why or why the question is not a good candidate for scientific inquiry. Address both questions. (Note: Do not try to answer the question itself, just whether or not it could be answered through scientific inquiry.) If the question can be studied scientifically, identify what method might be used to study it, and identify the independent and dependent variables. (See Ch 2, Sec 2.1)
