What happens if we decide to calculate the 99% confidence interval?

Statistics Discussion Question

One can calculate the 95% confidence interval for the mean with the population standard deviation known. This will give us an upper and a lower confidence limit. What happens if we decide to calculate the 99% confidence interval? Describe how the increase in the confidence level has changed the width of the confidence interval. Do the same for the confidence interval set at 80%. Please include an example with actual numerical values for the intervals in your post.

What will be the total number of seats in the theater?

developing a statistical database

Task Background:

Part I: Suppose you are developing a statistical database in which information about professional football teams and records are stored.

Consider the following 2 sets of data that list football teams and quarterbacks:

D = {Jets, Giants, Cowboys, 49’ers, Patriots, Rams, Chiefs}

Q = {Tom Brady, Joe Namath, Troy Aikman, Joe Montana, Eli Manning}

  1. Using D as the domain and Q as the range, show the relation between the 2 sets, with the correspondences based on which players are (or were) a member of which team(s). (You can use http://www.pro-football-reference.com to find out this information). Show the relation in the following forms:
    • Set of ordered pairs
    • Directional graph
  2. Is the relation a function? Explain.
  3. Now, use set Q as the domain, and set D as the range. Show the relation in the following forms:
    • Set of ordered pairs
    • Directional graph
  4. Is the relation a function? Explain.

Part II:

Mathematical sequences can be used to model real life applications. Suppose you want to construct a movie theater in your town. The number of seats in each row can be modeled by the formula C_n = 16 + 4n, when n refers to the nth row, and you need 50 rows of seats.

(a)   Write the sequence for the number of seats for the first 5 rows

(b)   How many seats will be in the last row?

(c)   What will be the total number of seats in the theater?

What role, if any, should the U.S. Government play in health care coverage for Americans?

free

Currently, numerous Americans lack health insurance because they are unable to pay for it. However, the number of people who do not have health insurance is relatively small as compared to the overall population. USA Today reported as of September 2010, 50.7 million Americans were uninsured.  In the under 18 years of age category, 16.7 % were uninsured.

Assignment 2: Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

Assignment 2: Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

Over the years, trait theory has been increasingly used by corporations in hiring and in career counseling. Research has shown that certain combinations of personality traits fit well with different career paths. Thus, personality trait tests for specific jobs can be predictive of both success and satisfaction. Understanding your own personality-trait combinations can give you great insight into your own strengths and weaknesses. With this understanding, you can work to grow your strengths and minimize your weaknesses.

In this assignment, you will explore your personality using a personality test and then analyze the results.

Part 1

First, explore your personality preferences by completing Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MTBI). The full version of the test can only be administered by a trained professional; however, there are many online informal versions of the test which you can find on the Internet. You can search for the test using any one of the following keywords:

  • Personality test + Myers-Briggs typology
  • Myers-Briggs test

Record your four-lettered personality type after completion of the test and use the Internet to interpret your personality type.

Part 2

In this part of the assignment, you will write a research paper that analyses your results. Do the following:

  • Mention your four-letter type and the URL of the Web site where you took the test.
  • Discuss whether this type accurately represents what you know about yourself. Examine the four spectrums and explain your answer thoroughly. Substantiate your agreement or disagreement with real-life behavioral examples.
  • Analyze what you consider the strengths and the weaknesses or challenges of this type. List three strengths and three weaknesses and provide a rationale for each.
  • Evaluate why this test could be a valuable tool for an employer.
  • Analyze how a clinician may use this test as a tool for promoting meaningful interventions in treatment.
  • Summarize what you have learned about yourself through this exercise.

Write a 3–4-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M4_A2.doc.

By Wednesday, January 13, 2016, deliver your assignment to the M4: Assignment 2 Dropbox.

What are three additional questions you would want to ask her in order to have a more complete picture of her holistic health?

Please see instructions below. Thank you

For this  discussion you will have the opportunity to step into the role of a holistic health care practitioner and analyze a case-study using the concepts of holism, vitalism and the determinants of holistic health. Read the case below:

Rebecca, a 54 year-old female, suffering from chronic anxiety has come to have an initial interview with you because she is concerned for her health. She has a fear of speaking in front of large groups and breaks out into a sweat when she is nervous. She has suffered from insomnia for four years, has had heart palpitations at night for five years, and has had frequent night sweats for the last six months. She complains of fatigue and rates her energy at 5 out of 10, in a scale where 10 is the best score. A year ago she moved to a new city to take a job in a large corporate firm where she works 50 hours or more each week. She has no close friends nearby but speaks with her sister and mother regularly. She was involved with a church in her previous town, but stopped attending five years ago after her son and husband died suddenly in a car accident. Her complexion is pale and she has slightly dark circles under her eyes. She usually does not eat breakfast, drinks two 16 oz cups of coffee per day, and prefers sweet or salty foods from the corporate cafeteria for lunch. Dinner is usually a large salad, TV dinner, or fast food. She always includes dessert. She does not exercise and has a one and half hour commute to work each day in heavy traffic. In the evening and on weekends she watches TV, takes herself to the movies or enjoys other non-social, sedentary activities. She does not drink alcohol or smoke tobacco. She makes poor eye contact in the interview but does indicate she is serious about needing guidance to resolve her anxiety. She has not previously sought medical attention for these concerns and uses no prescription or over-the-counter medications.

In an initial post of 275 words, ANSWER THE FOLLOWING:

What are three additional questions you would want to ask her in order to have a more complete picture of her holistic health?

Why are these questions important and what information do you hope to attain?

Describe this patient’s vitality. Is their vital force weak or strong? How can you tell? If appropriate therapeutic measures were taken, would she recover quickly or slowly?

Substantiate your answers.

Which basic determinants of holistic health are not adequately addressed in her life? What are some simple improvements you could suggest?

Would you use a depth-first or a breadth-first search for the best move at each step in the game?

Graphs and Trees

Graphs and Trees

Task Background: Graphs and trees provide you with ways to visualize data sets, and the opportunity to do analysis on the data (e.g., shortest path). Knowing the structure of a database enables you to choose a proper algorithm for searching for data within a database.

Primary Task Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write up to 3 paragraphs that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas.

Part I

Trees are somewhat less complicated than graphs, which makes things like data searching easier, when a data has the structure of a tree. However, not all data can be represented by a tree. Describe an example of a data set that cannot be represented by a tree, but that be represented by a more general graph. Explain why it cannot be represented by a tree.

Part II

The set of all possible sequences of moves in a chess game can be represented by a tree (decision tree). If you were to write a chess-playing computer program that can determine the best move at each step by searching the tree of possible moves and outcomes, would you use a depth-first or a breadth-first search for the best move at each step in the game?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of testing for error conditions as compared to using exception handling when performing input or output?

Error Handling and File Input and Output

Primary Task Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 400–600 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas.

You will need to store the details of a customer’s order in a file so that you have a record of it and so that you can retrieve it for later use. Numerous errors can occur during input or output operations. There are two fundamentally different ways to handle these error conditions (or any error conditions). You can test for each condition before or after it occurs or you can use exception handling.

In your program, you will be using exception handling to deal with input or output errors. Discuss the following:

  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of testing for error conditions as compared to using exception handling when performing input or output?
  • Why have almost all programmers, in almost all cases, moved to using exception handling for input or output?
  • In what situations other than input or output might you find exception handling useful? Could exception handling be the preferred approach to use for those situations as well?

Write 2 more paragraphs that are an introduction and conclusion to this topic. Be sure to include your references and format your submission in APA format.

Responses to Other Students: Respond to at least 2 of your fellow classmates with a reply of at least 100 words about their primary task response regarding items you found to be compelling and enlightening.

HR Performance Issues and Motivation

The relationship between the organization and its members can be greatly influenced by what motivates individuals to work. The style of leadership, job design, resources on the job, and environment can all have a significant effect on the satisfaction of employees and their performance. Performance is also influenced by individual motivations (e.g., social, recognition, financial reward, personal growth and development, and/or intrinsic satisfaction) and can equally impact the organization. There are many theories that attempt to explain the nature of motivation. Write a four- to five-page paper (excluding the title and reference pages) evaluating the relationship between motivation, job satisfaction, and work performance. Be sure to address the following:

  1. Describe a performance issue which resulted from a motivational problem (what, why, who).
  2. Use a content theory of motivation (e.g., Maslow, Alderfer, Herzberg, or McClelland) or a process theory (i.e., Adams, Locke, or Heider and Kelley) to explain how the issue creates a performance problem for the organization.
  3. Use the theory of motivation you selected to describe an intervention/action to change the motivation/behavior and correct the performance problem.

Your paper must use a minimum of three scholarly sources, in addition to the textbook. Your paper must be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center..
