Assignment:

Develop a matrix that identifies specific departmental needs for a company that you are familiar with.

Include the types of communication needed for each department such as email, web use, etc. and then estimate the amount of network traffic that would be needed to meet business needs.

Use information gained in the SkillSoft^® module and additional outside research including your course texts to determine reasonable estimates.

Provide an overall total needed for the organization which will impact the ISP connection that will be needed, as well as equipment and software.

Write a 2- to 3-page paper to explain your estimates.

Note. You must do additional research that includes a minimum of two additional sources in addition to use of your texts.

Assume that you are working in a community health department. The department has some federal money that it wants to allocate to two health promotion programs from the following:

• Decrease in deaths from cardiovascular disease
• Decrease in deaths from breast cancer
• Decrease in teenage pregnancy
• Decrease in cigarette smoking
• Decrease in incidence of diabetes
• Decrease in motor vehicle accidents
• Decrease in osteoporosis and hip fractures among women
• Decrease in obesity

Identify the health promotion programs that you would want to investigate and get them approved by your instructor.

Write a 3- to 4-page report in a Microsoft Word document, addressing the following questions:

• Identify the risk factors associated with the selected health promotion programs.
• What is the target population associated with the selected health promotion program? Consider the hypothetical target population, consisting of middle-aged women, male adolescent gang members, premature infants, etc., and describe the characteristics of each program.
• What are the risk factors that you want to focus on in order to achieve the objective of the health promotion program?
• What intervention would you recommend to be most appropriate to reduce exposure to these risk factors? You can choose at what level of intervention you want to implement each program (primary, secondary, tertiary health intervention).
• What will be the process by which this intervention will achieve the goal of the program?
• What will be the anticipated outcome of this intervention?

Importance of Vaccination

Mary’s one year old daughter is due to be given the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine during her next visit to the doctor. Mary is upset and concerned because one of her friend’s sons became ill after a similar vaccination. She has also heard rumors that MMR vaccine causes rubella. Mary was also told that her daughter will need to be vaccinated before Mary returns to work.

Mary is not alone. Many parents face this issue. Therefore, it is important for Mary and all such parents to make decisions that are best for their children, based on facts and not emotions.

Place yourself in the role of a health care worker, submit to the discussion area your plan to validate the importance of vaccination by addressing the following questions:

• Why are vaccinations necessary components of the healthcare programs?
• Are there reasons for people not being vaccinated despite of such elaborate healthcare programs? Explain.
• What are the consequences of people not being vaccinated?
• What is the impact of religious, cultural, legal, and ethical issues that parents need to consider before vaccination?
• What type of information will help the parents make an informed decision about vaccinating their children?

Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research and read about a health issue in specific regions in the United States. Some examples of the topics for your research could be:

• HIV or AIDS in African-Americans in Southern United States.
• Alcoholism in Native Americans in Midwestern United States.
• Diabetes among Navajo people in Southwest United States.
• Obesity among low-income children in Eastern United States.

Note: You may choose another population and region, these are just examples. You may also visit the Library of this course to gather data for your research.

Based on your research and data gathered, create a report in a 3- to 4-page Microsoft Word document, that addresses the following:

• The main issues being discussed and the message you wish to deliver to the affected population.
• Population affected.
• Age, gender, race, socioeconomic class, sexual orientation, religion, etc. of the target population.
• Segment of the United States population affected along with the percentage.
• Social factors such as culture and religion that may influence the burden of the disease.
• Ethical issues that may be factors in developing and implementing prevention and intervention programs for the disease.
• Various components of the health care system that can assist the community.
• Methods that the health care system should use to assist the community. (For example, state health care systems may revise or develop new policies to address the issue).

Part 2: Week 5 500-700 new material

After an initial investigation involving interviews of Martha’s family, friends, and so forth, 3 possible suspects have been worked up: Royce Triplett, Kenneth Hubbard, and Marcus Maher. The following is a summary of the facts surrounding each of the suspects.

• Royce Triplett
  • African-American, age 44, 5’11”, 167 lbs.
  • Royce is a member of Martha’s church, and they both sing in the choir. Divorced twice, he and Martha have been out for coffee a couple of times, but when he has asked Martha out on a date, she turned him down because “he is too young for me.” Royce reportedly is not content just being friends with Martha, and there have been a few occasions when Royce has acted possessive towards Martha; several members of the choir report that when another male member of the choir asked Martha out for dinner, Royce was “not happy” about that and started to have conflicts with the other member of the choir until that person quit the choir. Royce has a history of domestic violence with his first wife but none with his second wife, although they did divorce because he was too controlling. He has been employed for the last 23 years as a locksmith and handyman; he owns his own business and can be considered to be doing well. Martha’s neighbor does not recall ever seeing him at her residence. He refuses to provide a DNA sample or to submit to a medical exam to check for injuries because “cops just want to clear cases by pinning them on the first black man they can paint as a suspect.” He lives approximately an hour away by car from Martha’s home. He claims to have been home alone at the time of the crime.
• Kenneth Hubbard
  • African-American, age 25, 6’3″, 220 lbs.
  • Kenneth is unemployed and lives in his parents’ basement five blocks away from the park near where Martha lives. Considered a local eccentric, he spends most of his time hanging out at the park playing basketball or drinking. He has a prior arrest for assaulting his father in a fight that resulted in his barricading himself in his room until being talked into surrendering by a police negotiator. He was placed on a 72-hour mental health hold and diagnosed with depression and alcohol dependence. Approximately 3 weeks ago, Keeper had escaped from Martha’s backyard; Kenneth found him and had “sort of” adopted him, asking his parents (who did not know that Martha owned Keeper) if he could keep him as a pet. In the meantime, Martha had posted flyers around the neighborhood offering a reward for the return of Keeper. A few days later, Martha spotted Kenneth playing with Keeper in the park and reclaimed him. Kenneth was initially upset about losing Keeper, but since it was obvious whom he belonged to, he had no choice. About a day later, he found one of Martha’s flyers offering a reward for the return of Keeper. Kenneth went to Martha’s house to ask for the reward. Martha refused to give him one since he did not voluntarily return Keeper. She did agree to allow Kenneth to walk Keeper from time to time. Kenneth will not voluntarily offer a DNA sample because “that’s how the government tracks you.”
• Marcus Maher
  • African-American, age 24, 5’9″, 153 lbs.
  • Marcus (street name: “Easy”) is a former member of a violent gang. Marcus has an extensive rap sheet for drug-related offenses, but none for the last year; he is currently on parole for a trafficking charge, and according to his parole agent, “has been behaving” until he failed to check in Wednesday, two days after Martha’s murder. 6 months ago, he had a conflict with Martha when she spotted him hanging around the park with some fellow gang members. Martha (who was walking Keeper at the time) confronted Easy and his buddies about dealing drugs in the park. They assured her that they were not (Vice and the Gang Unit both confirm that the park is considered neutral territory and off limits), and actually (according to Easy) hit it off. They even referred to her as “Big Mamma” and admired her courage. Easy has been inside Martha’s house. He was there with his girlfriend and their 2-year-old daughter, who Martha occasionally babysits. Marcus’s whereabouts are currently unknown; according to his girlfriend, he was accused of being a snitch and is hiding out from his former gang. She denies that he had anything to do with Martha’s death. Marcus lives is a large apartment building with his girlfriend and child about a mile (12 blocks) from Martha’s home.

Consider the profile that you created. Upload a paper that answers the following questions:

• Do any of the above suspects seem to fit your profile? Why or why not?
• Of the 3 suspects offered above, which one do you judge to be the “best fit” for this crime? Explain in detail.
• Does the suspect you selected have the potential, based on the known facts, to become a serial killer?
