  2. Business Proposal

As an organizational consultant, you have been working with the management and staff of RPZ Marketing for several months now, listening, observing, asking questions, and making suggestions. During this time, you have completed your research on the company, and particularly on a specific business problem which you believe needs to be solved to enable RPZ Marketing to move ahead profitably in its marketplace. In the research paper that you completed in Unit 9, you built the case for the importance of addressing this problem, discussed alternative solutions, and made the case for the solution that you believe would be most beneficial to the company’s future. As you hand this report to the RPZ Marketing Board of Directors, you have the opportunity to make this case in person.

The purpose of this assignment is to make your case by creating a persuasive presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint for the CEO and board of directors of RPZ Marketing.

Your presentation should include no more than 15 slides, including your title slide and reference slide. As in a professional presentation, each slide should provide just key words, in headline format, along with any visuals you select to support the key ideas on that slide. Provide your more detailed narrative for the presentation in the Notes section only.

Build your presentation to focus on providing just enough information from your research to be persuasive for an executive audience. Here is a sample outline for one approach:

    • Title slide. (1 slide.) Name the result expected when the problem is solved. For example, if profit margin had been the problem, your title slide might say something like, “Ensuring Sufficient Margins.” This slide should also include your name, the date, and “Prepared for RPZ Marketing.”
    • Problem slides. (2–4 slides.) In summary terms, explain the nature of the problem that you discovered, including why it is a problem, the key facts involved, and the impact the problem is having on the business. All of this information should already exist in your research paper from Unit 9.
    • Potential solution slides. (3–5 slides.) Summarize the approaches that others have taken to solve this problem, including the types of companies involved, what they did, and what was most effective. Again, all of this information should already exist in your research paper. The challenge is to organize the information to present, including selecting the key words to place on the slides.
    • Solution evaluation slide. (1 slide.) This should be a single slide in which you find a way to present the advantages of each approach in a visually appealing summary format.
    • Proposal slides. (1–3 slides.) Succinctly describe the approach that you recommend, and provide a concise summary of the benefits that RPZ Marketing should expect to experience if this solution is implemented.
    • Reference slide. (1 slide.) Cite the sources you used for potential solutions, along with any background information that you find critical for understanding the nature of the problem.

    Requirements

    • Written communication: Written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message.
    • References: References and citations are formatted in consistent style, with a preference for APA (6th edition) style and formatting.
    • Number of resources: Minimum of 3 scholarly resources to support the solution identified as most productive for the problem identified.
    • Length of presentation: No more than 15 PowerPoint slides.
    • Detailed information: Slides should contain “headline” or bullet points only. Detailed information should be provided in the Notes section.
    • Font and font size: Arial 24–36 point font is recommended, with no text on the slides smaller than 20 point.

Refer to the Business Proposal Scoring Guide to ensure that your work meets the grading criteria for this assignment.

Your PowerPoint file is due by the end of this unit, no later than 11:59 pm Central Time on Friday.

Washington was the first President to leave office after two terms. Did he specifically intend for future presidents to be limited to two terms? Who were the four presidents who tried for third terms? Who was the successful one?

Washington was the first to establish foreign policy, and issued the Proclamation of Neutrality. What situation did this proclamation address? What agency advises the President on foreign policy today? What is the role of this agency?

What ethical issues might be encountered when collecting your information from this sample?

Based on the feedback you received on your submission from last week, submit a revised draft of your paper with this additional information:

  1. Five additional references that could be used for your research paper and include a 1-2 sentence description for each of the five additional references, explaining how they fit with the research topic and the research question proposed. Make sure that these references come from scholarly sources using Argosy’s library resources.
  2. A  very detailed outline of what you would like to cover in the intro/lit review of your paper. Write it as an outline and think about what you want each paragraph or section to cover. Paste your references into each section where the information from that article applies to the topic. Below is an example of the outline although the references have not been pasted in yet:
    1. Introduction or Statement of the Problem (e.g. Predictors of Depression in Men)
      1. Research question (E.g. What factors predict depression in men? For example, age, marital status, family history, stressors).
      2. Why is it important/implications  (E.g. xx% of men are depressed; less likely to seek treatment; if we can identify who is at risk, may be able to direct them to treatment sooner)
      3. Revised hypothesis based on feedback from the instructor
    2. Review of the Literature (the following is an example for above topic):
      1. Brief description of depression, symptoms, and any unique symptoms for men (Cite articles from which you will obtain this information).
      2. How widespread is it? Stats on depression in general but also stats on depression in men (Cite articles from which you will obtain this information).
      3. List factors that put men at risk for depression (Cite articles).
        1. Difficulty communicating distress or sadness (Cite articles).
        2. Job/work pressures (Cite articles).
      4. Demographic characteristics (Cite articles).
        1. Relationship between age and depression (Cite articles).
        2. Relationship between marital status and depression (Cite articles).
  3. A 1-2 page description of the sample you would like to use for your study, that provides the answer to the following questions:
    1. What sampling technique would you use?
    2. Does the sample generalize to the population? Explain why or why not.
    3. What inclusion criteria would be used? What exclusion criteria would be used, if any?
    4. What ethical issues might be encountered when collecting your information from this sample?
  4. Be sure to also submit all your ten references (the five from last week and the five new ones you added) in an APA-style reference page. Be sure to also include an APA-style title page with your submission. Your paper should be at least 2-3 pages long. What factors led to the rise of operant conditioning?

Assignment 2: LASA 1—Operant Conditioning and Superstitions

Assignment 2: LASA 1—Operant Conditioning and Superstitions

Many people believe that superstitions are absolutely true. This often causes them to believe and act in ways that are out of the norm either to avoid a negative outcome or to bring about a positive outcome. However, the origins of all superstitions lie in operant conditioning (for example, wearing the same shirt worn during a victory game to all future games in order to ensure victory).

In this assignment, you will examine the process by which operant conditioning can lead to the formation of a superstition.

Using the module readings, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, research the development of operant conditioning and its basic principles. Then, address the following:

  • Describe the historical antecedents of operant conditioning. What factors led to the rise of operant conditioning?
  • Describe the principles/concepts which can be applied to explain the process by which operant conditioning can lead to the development and maintenance of superstitions.
  • Brainstorm to come up with a number of superstitions you may have heard or read about. Using your knowledge and vocabulary of operant conditioning, choose one of these superstitions. Then, describe in detail, the thinking processes involved that resulted in the acquisition and perpetuation of this irrational belief.
  • Describe a specific aspect of the operant conditioning process that leads to these beliefs becoming so deeply ingrained and long standing in nature.
  • Explain whether a person can ever be rid of superstitions. What methods can be used to help such a person?
  • Interview a family member or friend to discover a superstition that he or she believes in. Explain the nature of the event that led to the formation of this superstition. Does this information fit with your understanding of how the operant conditioning process results in the development of superstitions? Why or why not?

Write a 3–4-page paper in Word format. The paper should be double-spaced and in 12 point, Times New Roman font with regular one-inch margins and free of typographical and grammatical errors. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Be sure to include a title page and a reference page. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M3_A2.doc.

Research paper:

An important component of this course is the research paper.  The paper can be on a topic of your choice, but it must relate directly to the course material.   You must use at least four academic bibliographic sources (paper or online) in addition to the required course readings. Wikepedia.com is not an acceptable academic reference at this university. The paper should be between 8 and 12 pages in length, not including the title, abstract (if written), or reference pages.

The research paper should include an introduction of the topic, a body in which the topic is developed and references correctly cited in APA format, and a well-defined conclusion.  Including an abstract is optional. For more information on how the essay exam questions and the research paper will be graded, see “Grading” below.

I strongly suggest that, as part of your research, you take advantage of the university’s online library link.  There is a wide variety of resources there including many full text papers and articles.  This may be of particular advantage to any of you who are deployed and do not have traditional library resources available to you.

I also recommend that you contact me with the topic of your paper before you begin your research.  The topic you choose may be too broad or too narrow, and a discussion may help you to focus so that your learning will be maximized and your paper will be the best it can be.

You must submit your final papers through Turnitin.com.  This is a site that checks for plagiarism, as well as providing resources to assist you in preparing your paper.  Be careful in your gathering of resources for your paper and do not copy directly from your sources!  Your paper is due at the end of Week 7 of class.  A 5% penalty will be imposed for each day that your paper is late, unless you communicate with me in advance.   Please refer to the section on Turnitin in the Academic Resources section of this syllabus.  Below are instructions for you to access Turnitin for this course.

How can managers ensure that they are not following a trend but instead doing what is truly best for the organization?

Assignment 1: Discussion—Business Analytics and Informed Business Decisions Assignment 2: Integration of Technology

Assignment 1: Discussion—Business Analytics and Informed Business Decisions

Many times organizations will make decisions based upon what other organizations are doing at the time or based upon the latest business trend. Think about the dot-com bubble as businesses soared and perhaps were also part of the major bust. Many organizations felt that they needed to join the crowd and have an online presence, only to realize within a couple of years that the decisions were made in haste, which resulted in many companies filing for bankruptcy. This era also had some companies that did not follow the trend only to realize within a couple of years that they were losing out on a new market, such as the online trading industry. This is why doing some research in the beginning can really help organizations make decisions based upon what is truly good for the organization.

Using the Argosy University online library resources and the Internet, research ways of making informed decisions.

Respond to the following:

  • Why do you think managers, or business decision makers, get caught up in following the crowd versus making decisions that are truly going to add value to the business? For example, some businesses may make decisions that drive only short-term gains at the cost of future growth. Can such a blind leap be a good thing for the business? Is it worth the risk?
  • How can managers ensure that they are not following a trend but instead doing what is truly best for the organization?
  • Have you seen your organization make trend mistakes? What were the mistakes? How could these mistakes have been avoided or improved upon?
  • How do you think business can learn from the mistakes of others or business decision mistakes such as the dot-com era?

Write your initial response in 300–500 words. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Assignment 2: Integration of Technology

Over the years, technology has not only changed the way individuals utilize it but also how organizations utilize it. As each generation of technology improves and changes, the availability of technology in the field of business analytics also changes. Therefore, businesses need to do all they can to keep current with these trends and ensure their staff is current as well.

Using the Argosy University online library resources and the Internet, research the latest technology that is being utilized in the field of business analytics for data-driven decision making. Select at least 2 scholarly sources for use in this assignment.

Complete the following:

  • Find and describe at least three technological components that are required for data-driven decision making. Be sure to explain how each component is relevant to business analytics.
  • Describe how a company would implement each of these components of technology. Explain the purpose and how it would be utilized within the company. Explain any other considerations that should be taken into account.

Utilize at least 2 scholarly sources in support of your assertions.

Make sure you write in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in appropriate and accurate representation and attribution of sources; display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Write a 2- 3 page report in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.
