In the land of free trade, the public does not view all industries as equal. Do you believe that is ethical? Do you believe that some industries are unfairly targeted? Should it be consumers’ choice to partake in products that are not healthy for them, or do those companies have an ethical obligation to protect people? In this assignment, you will choose one (1) industry to write about. Possible industries to research could be tobacco, soda, alcohol, casinos, or candy companies, just to name a few.

Write a one and a half to two (1½ – 2) page paper in which you:

1. Become an advocate for either the consumer or the industry. Prepare an argument explaining the major reasons why you support either the consumer or the industry.
2. Explain the role capitalism plays in corporate decision making.
3. Discuss if you believe it is possible for a company to cater to both its best interest and that of the consumer conjointly or if one always has to prevail. Justify your response.
4. Use at least two (2) quality references. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as academic resources.
5. Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
   1. Typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.

1. Many drugs have been used for medical purposes at one time or another.  Pick two drugs that have been utilized in this capacity and explain the medical rationale behind their use.  Conclude your answer with a description of why each drug was later banned from medical usage.
2. Explain the difference between licit and illicit drugs. Be sure to include a discussion of instrumental use and recreational use within your response.
3. Explain the concept of “Club Drugs”. In your discussion, give examples of some of the drugs typically used and explain why these particular drugs are popular Club drugs. Also, explain the health risks of club drugs beyond their own individual toxicities.
4. In the video “Poverty in Chicago” (Module 2) heroin is depicted as a pronounced inner city problem. Present an explanation of this phenomenon using one of the sociological perspectives on drug use found in Chapter 4 of the Levinthal text (3rd ed, starting on p. 74).
5. Drug abuse is typically associated with depressed inner city areas, but methamphetamine is very much a problem in rural areas. Discuss the reasons methamphetamine is equally or more prevalent than other illicit drugs in areas outside America’s inner cities.
6. Explain the drug Salvia divinorum. Include in your discussion: its history, effects and potency, accessibility, what the DEA has said about this drug, any toxicity concerns, and the results of a 2009 Michigan survey. Based on what you’ve learned about Salvia, should we be concerned about this drug in the future? Explain why or why not.
7. Discuss the specific adverse effects of marijuana on driving skills. Conclude your discussion by offering your view to the following: based on what is known, should DUI include driving under the influence of marijuana? Explain why or why not

Diabetes Type II is on the rise not only amongst adults but amongst children and teens.  Explain why this is occurring.  Be sure to include an explanation of the gland involved, the hormones secreted, how they function (how they attach to receptors).  Include also a description of the specific risks this hyposecretion or hypersecretion is causing and why they happen as a consequence.

A young woman visited her doctor concerned about her fatigue level. Following her physical, the doctor stated that her blood pressure and pulse were elevated. She had lost weight without trying, was having difficulty sleeping, perspiring more than usual and had continuing bouts of diarrhea. Those things, combined with the swelling in the front of her neck, suggested that she may be suffering from more than the stress of college life. Blood tests were suggested to check out what is going on.  Additionally, the girl asks if her bulging eyes (exopthalmia) could have anything to do with this issue.

1. What blood tests in particular might the doctor order?

At the end of this course, you will have created a marketing plan for a hypothetical product-based company. Each assignment focuses on a different section of the overall marketing plan. For Assignment 1, you will compile information on the company’s background information, an environmental analysis, your company’s short and long-term goals, and a SWOT analysis.

Note: You may create and / or make all necessary assumptions needed for the completion of this assignment.

Write  (6) page paper in which you:

1. Write an introduction to your company. Describe your company, its location, and the product it makes or the service it provides.
2. Develop an environmental analysis that includes competitive, economic, political, legal, technological, and social cultural forces.
3. Determine the primary and secondary target markets for your company. Next, analyze the primary and secondary target markets that you identified for your company. Be sure to cover the 4Ps, 5Cs and STP.
4. Decide the main goals that you would like to achieve within the next year (short term) and the mains goals that you would like to achieve within the next five (5) years (long term). Determine the most appropriate ways to measure both short- and long-term goals. SCientific Journal Article Critique

Each time you evaluate an article, you will complete Part I and Part II. You will submit on a typed hardcopy Part I., and Part II on the due date listed in your syllabus.

Part I.

1. Skim the article (take light notes)

• Read the abstract. The abstract informs you of the major findings of the study, and the importance.
• What is the big picture of the study (this is done as you read the article)
• Record terms or techniques you are not familiar with.
• Include questions to parts of the article you do not understand.
• If you are unfamiliar with concepts discussed throughout the article, then perform a Google search.

2. Re-read the article

• Go to the Materials and Methods and Results section, and ask the following questions within each section

o   Was the study repeated? (You should know why a study must be repeated. If you do not know ask Prof. Olave or Dr. Bignami ASAP)

o   What was the sample size? Is this representative of a large population?

o   What were the variables? Controls?

o   What factors might affect the outcome (according to the investigators)

o   Interpret the data within each figure without looking at the text. Once you have done this, then read the text.

o   Understand the purpose of the Materials and Methods

3. Preparing to summarize the article:

• Describe the article in your own words first. Can you explain to a friend without looking at your notes? If not, then most likely you do not understand. Go over your notes again.
• What was the purpose of the study?
• A reader who has not read your article must understand your summary.

4. Write a draft of your summary:

• Begin to write the article without looking at your notes. If you choose to look at your notes, then you may not understand the article, and may unintentionally plagiarize.
• Ask yourself the following questions to write your summary (without looking at your notes) in your own words:

o   What was the purpose of the study?

o   What questions were asked?

o   How did the study address these questions?

o   What assumptions did the author make?

o   What were the major findings?

o   What questions are still unanswered (according to the authors of the article)

Part II. Critical Review and Assessment of the Article

• In your summary, include your own analysis and evaluation of the article.

he final project for this course is the creation of economic history analysis presentation. Macroeconomics is the part of the study of economics that is concerned with the aggregate or the whole. Macroeconomics provides us with tools and methods to understand how our economy works as a whole. It deals with economy-wide issues such as price levels, employment, national income, and growth. As a student of macroeconomics, you will learn how to understand the changes occurring throughout our economy and how our economy is influenced by our decisions, by our government, and by other countries. In this assignment, you will perform an in-depth analysis of a 10-year period in U.S. economic history between 1950 and today.
