Dr Samuleson

Assignment 1: LASA 2—Country/Industry Risk Analysis

Assume that you work for a large multinational telecommunications corporation in the U.S. that is considering establishing operations in another country. Select one country as the basis for exploring the possibility of starting a joint venture in that country. You are assigned by your supervisor to conduct a full country risk analysis for this country and the telecommunications industry in that country. You are to present your findings to the Board of Directors in the form of a risk analysis report.

Your supervisor has asked for you to divide your report into the following areas for analysis:

  • Economic Risk
  • Political Risk
  • Business Environment Risk
  • Currency Risk
  • Recommendations for proceeding and suggestion of two additional financial analysis methods which could be used to further support the decision.

You are to conduct a country/industry risk report, identifying as many factors as possible in the categories listed above for the analysis.  Present your findings in a report of 10-12 pages.

In your report, you will make a recommendation to your supervisor as to whether or not the company should proceed with this venture.  Suggest two additional financial analysis methods which should be explored further in analyzing the feasibility of starting the global joint venture.  Explain your recommendations. The textbook suggests methods for doing a country analysis and there are several models that can be found on the Internet.

Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M5_A1.doc. For example, if your name is John Smith, your document will be named SmithJ_M5_A1.doc.

By Monday, December 7, 2015, deliver your final project to the M5: Assignment 1 Dropbox. Your facilitator will post the final projects in Doc Sharing.

Describe the company including their ticker symbol, fiscal year, major line(s) of business, history, financial projections for the future, and any affiliations currently existing.

need expert in economic and IT, computer science

For this project you select a Fortune 500 company of your choice and assess performance data via the SEC website EDGAR; here are the minimal requirements:

  1. (PowerPoint ) Describe the company including their ticker symbol, fiscal year, major line(s) of business, history, financial projections for the future, and any affiliations currently existing. Good sources include Yahoo finance and EDGAR but you are free to use others as well.
  2. (Excel and PowerPoint) Using the 10-K reports create an Excel spreadsheet (label 2 to indicate the sheet corresponds to question 2) with a column for Fiscal Years (i.e. 2014, 2013, etc.), Fiscal Year Sales.
  3. (Excel and PowerPoint) Using the 10-Q reports create an Excel spreadsheet (label 3 to indicate the sheet corresponds to question 3) with a column for Quarters, (i.e. Q1-2015, Q2-2015, etc.) and Quarterly Sales. Complete a total of 40 quarters (10 years of data) with the last quarter of 2014 representing quarter 40. Since the 10-Q reports are not released for the 4th quarter of each year you will need to use the information from question 2 to derive 4th quarter data (e.g. if you find that for fiscal year 2012 ABC Inc. made 1.5 billion in sales and you calculate that the sum of quarters 1, 2, & 3 net income equals 1.2 billion, then it stands to reason that the 4th quarter net income must be 300 million).
  4. (Excel and PowerPoint) Using Excel’s scatterplot function, estimate a linear trend equations [Y = α + β t] for Sales. Plot the time series data on the X-axis (Quarters from lowest to highest) and the sales on the Y- Axis (in millions of dollars). In the graph make sure to show the trend line and regression metrics (equation & R-squared). Using the equation forecast Sales for Q= 41 (Q1-2015).
  5. (Excel and PowerPoint) Using Excel’s Data Analysis Regression function create a spreadsheet that provides the computer-generated statistical details (label 5 to indicate the sheet corresponds to question 5). The resulting coefficients should mirror those calculated in question 4 with the scatterplot. If they don’t then you may have reversed your dependent and independent variables so you will need to correct this before proceeding.
  6. (PowerPoint) Summarize and explain your forecasted and statistical results (i.e. R Square, Coefficients, T-stat, P-value, and the 95% confidence interval).

Describe each step you indentified and its importance when designing a media campaign.

Module 2 – Case

Using Media to Advocate and Influence

Assignment Overview

Using the media as a tool can be powerful when promoting a health program. There are a number of steps that need to be taken in order to effectively disseminate a message out to the group you are trying to influence. Media advocacy and social marketing are useful resources a health educator can use in a number of different ways and for a number of different reasons. For example, social marketing may be used to influence individual behavior where as media advocacy might be utilized when attempting to influence policy makers (CFOC, 2008).

Case Assignment

  1. Identify the steps you would take when designing a social media campaign (provide 5-6 steps, use your required readings as a guide, and use bold headings to clearly identify each step.)
  2. Describe each step you indentified and its importance when designing a media campaign.
  3. Identify which of the Responsibilities and Competencies of a health educator a media campaign would address.

Module 4 – Case

Communicating Health Risks

Assignment Overview

The public health field encompasses a number of different sectors and one valuable area is crisis and emergency risk communication. When a problem arises, public health communicators need to take quick and accurate steps in order to divert or control disaster. We have seen this first hand with H1N1 flu and SARS outbreaks. It is important to understand steps that can be taken ahead of time, so when an emergency occurs you can react with effective procedures.

Case Assignment

For this case assignment, you will be using the CDC Risk Communication resource provided in your required readings section.

Step 1: Go to the website and under Risk Communication, click on “Emergency Preparedness and Response.”

Step 2: Read through the information on this page and then under Specific Hazards, click on “Recent Outbreaks & Incidents.

Step 3: Under “Select a Year,” click on 2014

Step 4: Choose one of the recent outbreaks

In your paper:

  1. Identify the incident/outbreak you chose from 2014 for which risk communication was essential.
  2. Describe the situation that occurred and some statistics to display the severity of the incident.
  3. What types of communication/procedures were used during this incident? Provide examples on the information that was disseminated and how it aided in the situation.

Assignment Expectations

Discuss how the two sets of control charts are different. What has changed?

Fujiyama Electronics Case Study

This case study looks at the behavior of a circuit board process through the use of control charts. At least two control charts will need to be constructed, and from them, you will be asked to provide an assessment of what you see. A template to facilitate the construction of the control charts has been attached. You are not required to use this template; however, it will greatly facilitate the solution.

Problem Statement

Fujiyama Electronics Inc. has had difficulties with circuit boards purchased from an outside supplier. Unacceptable variability occurs between two drilled holes that are supposed to be 5 cm apart on the circuit boards. Thirty samples of four boards each were taken from shipments from the supplier. The data obtained can be found on a attached.

Guidelines

The students will complete and answer the following questions.

  1. Calculate X-bar-bar, R-bar, and associated control limits using the data in the table above.
  2. Create x̄ and R (average and range) control charts from the data in the table above.
  3. Discuss notable out-of-control conditions displayed in the completed x̄ and R (average and range) control charts. Only consider points outside the control limits. Do not consider runs, set of points within certain zones, and so forth.
  4. If the conditions you note could be defined as assignable conditions, and they are removed from the process, then what will happen to the X-bar and R control chart?
  5. Remove the data related to the out-of-control points you observed from the original data, and recalculate new X-bar-bar, R-bar, and associated control limits.
  6. Create new X-bar and R (average and range) control charts from your updated data.
  7. Discuss how the two sets of control charts are different. What has changed?

The format of the case study should conform to the Publication Manual for the American Psychological Association (APA), 6th edition, for the title page and text. Citations and references are not required. A basic APA tutorial can be found in the Webliography, and a paper template can be found in Doc Sharing. The completed case study will be submitted to your Dropbox as an MS Word document. All graphics and charts will be a part of the Word document and submitted as a file. Documents authored in other applications, such as WordPerfect or MS Works, will not be accepted.

Best Practices

The following are the best practices in preparing this paper. Sample papers, using APA format, are located in Doc Sharing. Other useful information has also been provided there, including an APA paper template.

  • Cover page: Include the person you prepared the paper for, who prepared it, and the date.
  • Body of your work: Include titles to identify different areas that you address. State the main ideas, major points in each idea, and supporting information. Break down each main idea you will use in the body of your paper. Show some types of division, like separate sections that are labeled, separate groups of paragraphs, or headers. You would include the information you found during your research and investigation.
  • Summary and conclusion: Summarizing is similar to paraphrasing, but it presents the gist of the material in fewer words than the original. An effective summary identifies the main ideas and major support points from the body of your report.

Additional hints on preparing the best possible project include the following.

Research and examine the documentation requirements in each of the following standards related to physicians’ orders for an acute care inpatient facility, including authentication, dating, and timing of orders.

Your hospital is reviewing its medical staff rules and regulations. As the Director of the HIM department, you have been asked to work with the physician Chairperson of the Health Information Committee to make a recommendation regarding a policy on authentication, dating and timing of physician orders, including verbal, telephone, electronic, and handwritten orders. The policy you develop must allow the hospital to be in compliance with the documentation requirements of the Joint Commission, CMS Conditions of Participation and the State Licensing regulations.

Requirements:

  1. Research and examine the documentation requirements in each of the following standards related to physicians’ orders for an acute care inpatient facility, including authentication, dating, and timing of orders:
    1. Illinois State licensure rules (www.ilga.gov)
      1. Click on Subpart L Records and Reports
      2. Click on and Review Section 250.1510 Medical Records
    2. CMS Conditions of Participation
      1. Review the CMS Conditions of Participation provided by your instructor.
        1. 482.24 Medical Record Services
    3. The JCAHO standards
      1. Review the Joint Commission Standards provided by your instructor.
        1. RC.01.01.01
        2. RC.00.02.01
        3. RC.01.03.01
  2. Prepare a 2-3 page report describing, comparing and/or contrasting the specific standards that apply to the authentication, dating and timing of physician orders, and make a recommendation as to what the policy for your hospital should be.
In order to be in compliance with more than one set of standards the hospital must comply with the strictest standard of the three.

Example of One Way to Approach the Assignment Regarding Verbal Orders

List each standard that applies and then select the strictest to include in your policy.

Joint Commission Standard RC.02.03.07: Qualified staff receive and record verbal orders.

Elements of Performance for RC.02.03.07 3. Documentation of verbal orders includes the date and the names of individuals, who gave, received, recorded, and implemented the orders

State Licensure Rules (IL) Section 250.1510 Medical Records b)Organization 5c)

Authentication of Medical Record Entries 1) All entries into the medial record shall be authenticated by the individual who made or authorized the entry.

CMS Conditions of Participation A-0454: All orders, including verbal orders, must be dated, timed and authenticated promptly by the ordering practitioner …

Analysis of the Standards: CMS has the strictest policy of the three as it requires not only dating and signing but timing as well.

Recommended Policy: All verbal orders must include the date and time of the verbal order and the name of the individual physician who gave the verbal order. All orders must be authenticated by the ordering physician within 24 hours.

Assignment 2: Managerial Tasks in Strategy Execution

While companies must tailor their strategy-executing approaches to their particular situation, there are eight managerial tasks which are common elements in executing strategies. Review the eight components of strategy execution and develop a PowerPoint presentation which applies each of these components to an organization of your choice.  Include at least three visual elements such as charts or graphs to complement your presentation.

Consider the following while developing your PowerPoint presentation:

  • Discuss what is involved in performing the eight key managerial tasks that shape the process of implementing and executing strategy.
  • Explore building resource strengths and organizational capabilities including: marshaling resources, instituting strategy-facilitating policies and procedures, adopting best practices, installing operating systems, and tying rewards to the achievement of good results.
  • Explain what role a company’s culture plays in executing these managerial tasks.

Present your findings in an 8-10 slide PowerPoint presentation. Use the notes section to clarify your work.  Cite your sources and apply APA standards for writing style to your presentation. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M4_A2.doc.

What are the key areas of interest you will be presenting to the readers?

Week 8

For this assignment you will write a paper relating a topic in physical science to your career field or other real-world practical application. You must use at least three different sources, and cite them in the paper and on a separate references page.

Introduction

Instructions:  In this section, you must do the following:

  1. Present relevant background or contextual material.  (Why are you writing on this topic? What is the importance of this topic in terms of your studies, your profession, your life, your activities, etc.)
  2. Define terms or concepts when necessary.  ( Do not use acronyms in the introduction, if you plan to use acronyms later in the body of your paper, you must define them now.  Any technical term should also be defined.  If you are writing about a particular concept, ie.  Newton’s Third Law of Motion, then you need to explain the concept here in the introduction)
  3. Explain the focus of the paper and your specific purpose. (What will your paper include in terms of research about the topic?  What are the key areas of interest you will be presenting to the readers?  What audience is this paper intended for?  What do you hope to achieve by researching and writing about this topic?)
  4. Reveal your plan of organization. (How will you guide your readers?  What is the outline or plan of flow your paper will follow?  The best way to do this is to lay out the key headings of the subtopics that you intend to cover in the main body of the paper)

Body (I would suggest putting down the Sub-headings for each key areas you are covering in your main text body)

Instructions:  In this section, you must do the following:

  1. Consider at least 2.5 pages of text – Times New Roman font, size 12, double spacefor your main text body section.
  2. Build your essay around points you want to make – flow of ideas and cohesion of ideas are important here.  Do not try to arrange information from sources in a cut and paste manner.  Read the information from sources, put the information in your own words and then organize the information around the key points/topics that you wish to emphasize.  In order to do this, you must draft the paper first.  Drafting is not the final copy.  A draft helps you organize the information.  The final paper is a polished copy that shows how paragraphs are linked, how information is organized to support ideas and thoughts and how the key topics are covered in a cohesive and logical manner.
  3. Integrate at least three sources into your writing .  These three sources must come from valid sources.  Do not use wikepedia, Yahoo answers, Ask.com; Answers.com or any websites that do not have a credited author listed.  If you are in doubt, post a question on the Final Paper Thread and let me help you evaluate your sources.
  4. Summarize, analyze, explain, and evaluate referenced work rather than merely reporting it. (You summarize information when you put it in your own words, rather than cutting and pasting direct wordings from sources.  You analyze the information when you examine it critically, ask questions about the information, challenge it or locate other supporting sources to validate it.  You evaluate information when you examine it for usefulness, validity, errors, or future application).  Simply putting down the researched information without this personal perspective means that you are only reporting the information.)
  5. Move up and down the “ladder of abstraction” from generalization to varying levels of detail back to generalization.  (The general level is the writing in the introduction section, the details are in the body section and the generalization is in the conclusion section.)

 Conclusion

Instructions:  In this section, you must do the following:

  1. A summary of the information is done here.  Summarize the key points you made in the paper for your reader.
  2. If prior to your conclusion you have not yet explained the significance of your findings or if you are proceeding inductively, use the end of your paper to add your points up and to explain their significance.  Physics is a field of study that is applicable to many aspect of your life.  This is where you need to tie the research back to practical applications, whether it be in leisure, sports, work, school, daily activities, etc.
  3. Move from a detailed to a general level of consideration that returns the topic to the context provided by the introduction.  A good conclusion will reiterate the key points mentioned in the introduction.
  4. Suggest what about this topic needs further research. This is important because it shows a higher level of thinking.  In this area, you would want to take the information you researched and presented to the next level by either theorizing or providing concrete applications of the topic of research for the future.  Again, this could be future applications in school, work, industries, recreational activities, etc.

Personal Evaluation

Instructions:  In this section, you must do the following:

  1. State your opinion in the first sentence of the paragraph.
  2. In the body of the paragraph, give at least three reasons why you think and feel as you do. Include both facts and examples to supportyour opinion.  To support your opinion, you will need an in text citation from one of your sources.
  3. End with a sentence that sums up and restates your opinion.
  4. Suggest what, if any, improvement should be applied to your topic.
  5. Write an appreciation statement regarding the connection of physical science to the world in which we live; discuss how this topic has helped you in your career or everyday life.
  6. Most importantly, keep in mind:  this paper must be in your own words.

References (on a separate page)

  1. Citeat least three sources using APA format.  If you do not know how to do in text citations or how to set up a particular source in APA, post a question in the Final Paper Thread in the discussion or send me an email and I can help you.
